I still think it's a good idea and having a different theme each month is fine.
Why not, at present have a photo of the week, which the moderators or a moderator chooses from all pictures submitted to galleries.

I suspect that like a lot of other things this is in the "on hold queue" waiting for stu to have the time to set it up. - not a criticism of stu, he has a life and a job on top of wab and its amazing that he puts in the time he does.

In my opinion its a great idea , but could prove (if succesful) a lot of work for the competition secretary ( this is something to be wary of - cautionary tale 18 months or so ago i took on running the review section - but with a new job, and a fiancee I now havent the time I ought to give it with the result that the review section is somewhat dated. - this could easily also happen to competitions if the "secretary" doesnt have a lot of time on their hands.

also there are still the two problems the dogged competitions in the past

a) lack of votes - while we have a higher membership than previously itwill still take admin time in promoting the comp to ensure a representative vote ( by way of illustration in the last 18 months plus this thread has attracted 24 members - out of circa 20,000 - and at least 6 of these were mods or long term members explaining the pitfalls - arround 0.1% interest isnt exactly a ringing endorsement)

b) Partisan voting - while entries can be anonymous it would still be possible for people to pm their freinds and get little cabals voting for them - yes this is deeply sad , but this kind of thing , and deliberate vote trashing by trolls and sock puppets is a sad fact of forum life - guarding against it takes mod/admin time which may not be available in abundance.

overall my feeling would be paitience mes amis - i'm sure stu will set a comp up if he feels it is a good idea and can be made workable - hassling for it will not make it come any quicker
