We'll hopefully have something setup by January, but there's still a ton of other jobs to get through first
Stu | Any further development on this sensitive topic?

| | | Re: Photo Competition How about this:
1) To give the current mods and Stu a break give one person the title of "Competition Secretary".
2) Create a forum section called "WAB Members Monthly Photo Competition". There will be one thread per month within this forum section.
3) The Competition Secretary role is the only account (except Mods) who can post to this new forum section.
4) Members who want to enter have to email their image to the Competition Secretary. The email should contain the image and the entrants' forum name.
5) The Competition Secretary posts each image to the new forum. This way all images will be posted under one name with no userID.
6) Once the winner is chosen their name is revealed!
Idea could prob do with a little tweaking - it's just as I thought of it.
I'd be happy to volunteer as the competition secretary, as I'm sure would others, and we could rotate this task monthly around volunteers

| | | Re: Photo Competition Purplepixii, Personally I like the idea. It sounds reasonable enough to me and not to onerous to run. Only my initial opinion of course. Others with a wider view may well see problems I can't.
Can I offer a bit of advice to anyone who would like to volunteer to do something like this?
Firstly register as a WAB Volunteer!
It's easy to do, go to control look down the options on the left hand side and select Group memberships. There you can click in the WAB Volunteer section and you'll get the lovely green WAB Volunteer by your name! |

Matt | seen something similar done on another forum where they set it out in groups - a bit like the footie world cup system...

Matt | Oooooh I missed that vital part out!!
Simplest way I think would be a voting system. If there is a limit on the "radio buttons" that can be used on a post then just one word answers (number of pic of your choice) - easy enough to count them up afterwards.

| | | Re: Photo Competition I think pixii's idea for a competition secretary would be great. Also the voting idea she suggested would make voting the absolute easiest, not only on the people participating, but for the mods & programmers behind the site. Simply have the people voting just place the winner number of their choice into the comment box and hit enter. Then they're easy to count up afterwards AND it's no work for the programmers.
I also think it'd be a good idea to require entries to the competition to vote as well. The secretary can keep an eye to make sure all entries vote, and that may ensure a good voting success rate as well. |

| | | Re: Photo Competition You could have different catergorys each month , where you get the same people winning each month you could have it where winners don't get to submit for the next two months.
On a place this size you may have to limit the number of entries to say 10 per competition otherwise you could end up with 50 entries
Here is one of the catergorys I do each month http://oscarfish.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=74788
I do three per month and have voting via a poll. |

Glad it looks like it's going to get off the ground - should be really good

Purplepixii | with such few reply's to Pixii's proposals & Mrs.Fishs experience and enthusiam to et a WAB photo competition up and running it's leaves me wondering if the interest has flagged or are members just waiting on an outcome?! Where does a WAB friendly now competition stand
Cheers-Jez

| | | Re: Photo Competition I think it's a great idea. It could also be run (if it was monthly), that the photos entered had to be taken in that month (a quick look at the exif data is dead easy as long as it's still there). That could help folk who are starting out and don't have huge banks of images. ...But I appreciate that might end up too much of a hassle to enforce
