| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails This just makes me sick to think of those poor whales being hunted, harpooned and dieing in such pain.
I won't write more, I risk being banned.

To see your first Blue Whale is such an awe inspiring sight as well as others species and I find it unbeleivable that people still hunt Whales given current population levels.

Paul | Have you seen a Blue Whale then ? I'm so jealous if you have. I've seen Humpbacks and Minke, that was a long time ago though in the States.

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails If Japan is allowed to get away with murdering endangered species, how long before they go after the worlds remaining Blue Whales. It is about time the civilised world took action to boycott one of the major Japanese corporations like Sony. Only when there are Japanese people put out of work will this barbaric country come into the 21st century when nit realises it can not just go around making it's own rules up. |

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails And exactly what will killing a thousand whales prove to science?
That they';re dead?
That the sea is polluted? We know that already - we don't need even one dead whale full of toxins to tell any of us that let alone a thousand - what we need to do is stop polluting.
Why do the Japanese need to eat something wild and endangered - what is wrong with sticking to cow, lamb and chicken which is reared for eating and won't deplete the natural world?
Why can no-one stop people from doing the wrong thing - how is it that no matter what laws and protection is put in place - for anything - it can be got around by folk who are deceitful and disgusting enough to find a way..........
I'm sorry but human beings deserve what they get - the trouble is those of us who know better have to have a brushful too

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails there is no scientific justification for killing whales, and recently it's been reported that more information can actually be gained by examining whale faeces (including DNA IDing). There is an argument that the Minke Whale population is now back at a level that can support fishing pressure, but that doesn't resolve the ethical or moral issues associated with killing a mammal imprecisely and slowly. I believe humpbacks may also be back on the rise, but most cetaceans are still endangered.
I wish they would just call a spade a spade and let people debate the real issue of commercial whaling without hiding behind 'scientific research'. |

The Japanese are intelligent when it comes to technology and provide an array of equipment world over. If this business was boycotted who knows what effect this would have. Sadly though it's highly unlikely ever to happen as they rival other companies tremendously when it comes to quality and the like. Most computer games are made by the Japanese or at least designed by them and we all know how much they are in demand. It's a very sad fact of life unfortunately.
