| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails I wonder how long before the Chinese start building massive whaling ships and refer to them as the scientific fleet. They seem to have little regard for for our delicate planet in most other areas.

If only they could change their backward, inhumane attitude towards the giants of the ocean! |

I witnessed a video of this a few months back and it was so horrifying that the images stuck in my head for weeks and upset me. I can't begin to tell you how bad it was. Just to say that I couldn't believe that some human beings could be so without any compassion at all.
Even now, the images float back into my head and I have to bury them all over again.
All I can ask anyone Japanese who may read this and I know that a vast number are good and caring people- PLEASE ASK YOUR GOVERNMENT TO PUT A STOP TO THIS AND PLEASE SHOW US THAT YOU HAVE A HEART.

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails As some of you may already know, the whales are not infact being killed for scientific reasons, that is just an excuse. There is a loophole in the law stating that a certain number of whales may be caught for scientific studies. Unfortunately this is explioted and the Japanese can now get whale burgers from
Mac Donalds. It saddens me greatly to see such harmless creatures killed so cruely. Japan also says that they don't have enough farm land to graze farm animals so they turn to the sea to provide them with all the food they need.
So what can we say, do as America and England does an chop down someone elses rainforest to graze cattle/ grow crops. There is no easy answer, but they don't need to kill the whales and they should fish more substainably. |

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails A floating mansion in the sea
A graceful sight, so bold and free
The ocean’s giant swims along
The mighty currents, swift and strong
In awe and wonder people come
To see him dive beneath the sun
And then, when silence seems to reign
His song comes flowing through again
A thing of beauty, power and grace
That lifts my heart in gladdened praise
So then, I wonder, “What’s the need?”
Why take this creature for your greed?
To let him suffer at the hand
Of those who never understand
Who never took the time to gaze
Or wonder at his gracious ways
If only they could hear his song
And watch his power glide along
But no, they don’t, they can’t, you see
They only see a commodity
They never seem to care or think
That all this may make him extinct…
And so, I watch him still and pray
That people may see straight one day
That they will understand and cease
And leave you in you beauteous peace

| | | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails This is just getting worse and worse. On the whole I think the Japanese are against eating whale meat, it`s the government and a minority of the public who are pusuing it.It is rediculous that they say it is part of their culture as research proves that they only started eating whale meet in the second world war as they didn`t recieve any other aid.Something has got to be done before (as previous people have said) other countries join in. |

Pauline | I quite often feel moved to do this. If I feel strong enough about a subject I will put it into a poem. It sometimes has a greater effect on people when it's in this form rather than straight speaking. Most of the content is taken from what is written in this thread. I'm glad you like it and maybe it will have an affect on the people who are doing thee terrible things. There is always hope...... Sarah

| | Re: Japanese whaling fleet sails What really depresses me is that countries like Japan are so supremely arrogant they will never take any notice of what the rest of the world thinks of them .
So, when they've finally hoovered up the entire contents of the ocean in the name of 'science', what then ?
