| | | Fallen Fruit for Birds I left all the fallen apples on the lawn. Now I have a garden full of blackbirds and starlings. They are having a whale of a time and it's doing me good watching them.
I'm also glad that I topped up my niger seed feeder as there are 17 goldfinches clinging to it! The greenfinches are on the sunflower heart feeder and the blue tits are at the peanut feeder! The sparrows are rowing with the greenies and the robin is bobbing up and down on the fence.
The dunnock is dashing out of the bush and grabbing bits and the doves are collecting up the falling seed.
It's all going on and the sun is shining too.

That sounds great!
Just looked out of the window and all the life I've got in the garden, is next door neighbour's moggy, cough, cough, "at toilet" on my rock hard frosty vegetable bed...!

Doug | Oh dear, not good. But I'm sure everything is ready to spring into your garden once the moggy is ...finished!

Roger | Have noticed similar. The recent cold weather has increased the birds in the garden.
I usually put out old fruit for the birds and the Blackbirds are particularly fond of it.

| | | Re: Fallen Fruit for Birds Not much activity this morning. The frost is hard and unless the little birdies have frozen to something they must all be taking cover. Oh that reminds me I must check the bird bath.
Yep- just removed 3/4 inch depth of ice off it.

| | | Re: Fallen Fruit for Birds That's a good idea mrs fish, our fruit is usually pecked off the trees by starlings, who don't seem too worried about me rushing up the garden shouting and waving my arms trying to take off, but this year the flocks seem to be missing.
Leaving it on the ground seems to attract too many slugs, we throw it over the fence onto waste ground hoping they will race after it.
Max.
Can't remember which thread it was, saying, "the garden birds have become a little scarce lately" 'cause ours have, no finches or tits, I have seen the outline of a predator nearby which maybe the cause, but it could have been a cuckoo.
