Have seen a few in Oxfordshire, but hundreds in Berks/Surrey area. There is a large population around that way.

There's plenty in London too in places like Holland Park and Kew Gardens.

Re: Ring/nect Parakeet (psitticula kraneri)

when i lived in chelmsford my hubby worked in the crematorium, next to the crem was a nursery that had a very badly kept avery, with ring neck parrots budgies and cockatiels, one night some do gooders let them all out into the grounds of the crem, the ring necks stayed in the grounds for a couple of years,so pehaps that was the begining of them in the wild who knows.

There certainly is, the largest I have seen is by the Thames in Shiplake, a village just outside Henley-on-Thames. They're easy to find, just follow the huge noise they make

Re: Ring/nect Parakeet (psitticula kraneri)

I live less than a mile from the former main roost Ring-necked (Rose-ringed) Parakeets at Esher Rugby Club in Hersham where at its peak the roost was around 7,000 birds. It's regular to see flocks of 100+ birds flying over my garden.
The most popular idea behind there appearance in this country was that they escaped from film studios Shepperton/Pinewood back in the 1960s. The main population is around southwest London, but there are also colonies in places as far afield as Margate and Scotland.

Cheers,

Adam

Re: Ring/nect Parakeet (psitticula kraneri)

Hi, posted a pic HERE in the "bird of the day" thread of two that showed up in our garden last week. We're in Redhill, Surrey and I know that a few live just a couple of miles away at Merstham. There are also some at the reserve at Sevenoaks - very easy to see if you go there. They are slowly spreading out from London I think.

They are surprisingly big, very noisy and very, very green!
