| | | are you as big a softee as I am? I am sitting here with tears rolling down my face. The animals I have fostered for the last 5 months move to their new home today. Despite telling myself I wasnt going to cry I am.. and they havnt even gone yet. what do you say? Are you a big softee too?
Personaly I blame it on my ear infection..

And yes I’m with you…a big softee and nothing wrong with that at all!!
The world would be a far nicer place if everyone was don’t you think??
5 months is a long time to look after the animals, time enough to learn their personalities, little ways and the fact that they depend on you.
I say, don’t give them back!!.... Tell the owners they can't have them!! ..that they may have an infectious disease or something!
Or failing that be happy in the knowledge that you did the kindest thing and helped them out when they needed it most.
Have you any more plans to foster anything else?
Heartbreaking now but a very kind and worthwhile thing to do in the long run!!
Anyway here's a Big hug from me too!

| | | Re: are you as big a softee as I am? Three years ago we had to have our Irish Setter put down as he had cancer, and I went with my partner to offer her moral support and a shoulder to cry on. The vet asked if we would like to stay in the room while he put Clancy to sleep, so we sat beside him with me holding his head and my partner holding his paw, both of us with tears tolling down our faces. At least Clancy went very peacefully, he just closed his eyes and that was it. Never again. |

| | | Re: are you as big a softee as I am? Thank you all for your support. They have all gone now.
I had a budgie, a ring neck parakeet, two cockatiels, a gold fish and the most adorable little fatty of a guinea pig. I took them in an emergency (their owner was being sectioned) and they have been noisy furry, feathery, finny company. The lady has now left hospital and is in wardened accommodation.. her family are now taking them. She will have the parakeet with her. My dogs will be pleased they have all gone as they were a serious temptation to the jr cross. I am pleased I did it but dont know if I can do it again.
Sorry to hear about the doggies who have gone. They will have had the best lives with all you who cared for them.
Thanks again all you lovely people.. am going to drown my sorrows in a large bar of chocolate. Dont worry Henry, I will replace it
Jaki xx

| | | Re: are you as big a softee as I am? Jaki, animals are part of our families, even if they're a dog, hamster or tarantula. You are doing what I would guess at most of the folk on this site would do, truth be known...even the bid macho guys too, betcha.
Lucky animals having you for a foster Mum.

Lucky animals having you for a foster Mum. | You are most probably right Jules as well.
We had to have one of our Maine Coon cats put down a couple of months back. (cancer) He was a huge silver tabby, a gentle giant that was as daft as a brush.
Don't mind admitting I shed tears when I held him and the vet delivered the injection. Would be a very hard hearted person I think who didn't shed a tear in public or private at the loss of any animal that is one of the family.
Hope you have some more animals to foster in the future Jaki, you are obviously a very caring lady.
Roger

When I had to have our dog Samson, a gorgeous German Shepard, put to sleep, I was there. I was a hopeless, crying wreck. I couldn't even pay the vet, I just had to leave. I grieved for that dog for 6 years, in fact I still am. I'll never have another dog, I simply can't stand the thought of going through that again, I simply loved the animal too much.
By the way, I'll also cry at almost any film. Even cartoons! I shed loads of tears when I saw Spirit, Stallion of the Cimmarron!! |

It just doesn't match his image as he's 6'5" and built like a rugby player (or two!)

The fact the those people on here have felt the loss and shed a tear surely makes them just the sort of people who should give a home for a another pet.

Looking back we really should have taken Clancy to the vet's a lot earlier, especially as he would have really bad days where he couldn't even stand up, but you always hope he will improve and you don't want to lose him.
After Clancy died we swore we wouldn't get another dog. That lasted for less than a week and we went from the sublime to the ridiculous. We have had Alsatians, a Lab and two Irish Setters and what did we get - a Yorkshire Terrier, not the toy kind, more the slightly larger rougher type. We wouldn't swap him for anything and he goes everywhere with me and will walk for miles. A really hardy little dog. |

My dog is getting on, 15yrs old, this is the first year he hasn't heard fireworks so think he's now partially deaf. Have spent most bonfire nights with him as he's a scaredy cat, this year made me feel very sad in that he won't always be here. Must be neurotic as now v weepy, pass me the wine quickly
