| | | Pets and Wildlife on November the 5th. I'm sure I speak ( or should that be write ) for everyone when I mention my concerns for pets and Wildlife at this time of the year. The usual advise applies for pets, that is to keep them indoors. Try to consider wildlife. Many people still don't realise that thousands of Hedgehogs perish when they go to hibernate in bonfires and get burnt alive. For anyone that isn't aware, please don't build your bonfire too many days ahead and check it the day it's going to be lit. For those of you who will be celebrating, have a happy November the 5th. |

The village I live in gives me cause for concern for the poor people who suffer at the hands of our local neds (chavs) who shove fireworks through letter boxes, fire rockets on our main street and generally cause mayhem for virtually the entire month of Novemeber. |

| | | Re: Pets and Wildlife on November the 5th. we went through a spell of that, idiots setting off fireworks at odd hours of the night , not funny at all especially as our dogs were upset. he didn't see the aftermath of me trying to calm down and reasure a dog . why would anyone who lets off fireworks at three am see the humourous side of it...beats me !!!
we just took on two rescue dogs this is their first nov 5th with us so ones off to the vet now to see if she can get a sedative to take on saturday night ,just to be on the safe side. as an afterthought the display is costing five grand donated by a local hotel chain ...i would think they could've made better use of the money

| | | Re: Pets and Wildlife on November the 5th. It hasnt been that bad so far this week ..just a few being let off once is gets dark ...But if this weekend is anything like last yr it will be noisy and will go on until the early hrs.. ..from the neighours having their own party ...which ive never really understood why they have all that going off in their garden when they have a large dog and a couple of cats...We have a large display in the local park near the lake..up to around 2,000 attend..again a large area for the wildlife there...ducks swans etc..where do they all go ....I really dont feel that some people are thinking with a positive attitude toward the enviroment and the wildlife ...It just seems there out to make some money and at a £5 a time to watch lets just hope they put it to good use...

Julie | I agree Julie, as far as I know there isn't an organised display in my local area on the 5 Nov, they are all either tonight or tomorrow. So what annervesary are they marking on the 2nd and 3rd of November? Oh yeah there not the're just making a bigger profit.
And as for not thinking about wildlife. We get our dogfood from a country shop which sells mainly horsey/riding type equipment as well as pet stuff, and fireworks. What are they thinking of, not the horses or pets that for sure? Oh yeah the're just making a bigger profit.

| | | Re: Pets and Wildlife on November the 5th. I agree its not just the indoor pets who suffer. I have seen people moving horses in horse boxes away from the area where one of our local organised firework displays is held. We are lucky to live out in the sticks and not close to any displays or fireworks at home, but I still go out and check on our pony and goats a few times during the evening - after all, their hearing is far more sensitive than ours.
Our neighbours had a New Years Eve party once with fireworks, without advising us in advance, and our animals were terrified. I spent over half an hour in the rain trying to comfort them! I wish the sale of fireworks for domestic use could be banned once and for all.
Its not just Hedgehogs in fires either. I remember going to a large display once and when the fire was lit, dozens of little mice started running through the crowd - obviously taken shelter in the pre-built fire pile. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
