Re: Promotion!

I still can't find these PMs you were talking about Mike. If you could send me the details of them it would really help to make sure that other members aren't being PMed by the same person(s)

I think we'll now have to add a rule that the sale of any item, or even just a query about a sale, by WAB members to other members should be declared to the mods...along with the value and quantity of the sales. This will enable everything to stay all above board and also ensure that WAB gets a typical retail percentage (40-50%) of any sale

Stuart

I understand that you might not want to name names and that's OK because to be honest, you don't really need to let me know the names, the tracking system we've got can through every PM, deleted or otherwise. If it's there then we'll find it ... and then we can run a full trace on the poster(s) and find their true identity...

If necessary I'll take the site down for a while to run a really intensive search, as it can require quite a lot of resources, but it will leave no stone unturned, find almost every keystroke and if it means stopping troublesome PMs then I think it'll be worth it.

Stu

I think Stu is basically cornering the poor fella, how guilty would he feel knowing that WAB would be down because he wont name names?

No need to post that, should of just done it behind the scenes and blamed it on "Gremlins"

Just my thought though......................

Stewy, if I wanted to corner anyone I'd make it a lot simpler by just saying 'tell me the name of the person(s)...and that's not a request'

I can take the site down during the small hours when no members are on, so stirling doesn't need to worry about that

We don't get to run the tracker to it's full stretch very often so I'd quite enjoy putting it through its paces I'll hopefully get the chance to do it tonight

Stu

I'll admit that I do find it a little bit strange to protect anyone who clearly upset you so much in your first post, and I am a bit puzzled as to why I haven't found them yet, but you've obviously got your reasons.

I simply want to make sure that whoever it is, isn't doing the same to any other members. They may have PMed other members who have left WAB as a result...so unfortunately for whoever it is, I won't forget about it until I've tracked them down

Stu

Re: Promotion!

No one is doubting your word Mike but I don't think you realise the responsibility Stu has in making sure the site runs as smoothly as possible.

If you receive PM's like this then who else is. Who might receive PM's like this and instead of highlighting it like you have just leave the site without giving good reason.

The majority of members do not know what it takes to keep a site like this running smoothly. Also most members don't realise that every PM can be researched by the people that run the site.

This is a necessary fact of life and all forums have to do this. It is the only way of knowing what is going on behind the scenes. 99.9% of the time the PM's are totally innocent but there is that small percentage of members that are hell bent on causing trouble for the site and they need to be weeded out before we lose members who are an asset to the site. All Forums suffer with this and this site is no different.

Rest assured any PM that has been sent is in the system. They will take some finding but they will be found if looked for. All Stu is asking is to save him the time to search those PM's out by you giving him the names, and date of PM sent if possible. Even better copy and paste the content.

I hope that explains Stu's position Mike.

John

P.S. I have just seen Stu's answer and it seems like I am stating what he has also said. Great minds think alike.

Re: Promotion!

What a shame that you are having to do this Stu.

Given the hours you put into the site its really a hassle you dont need. I did a similar execise on a site I look after recently. Admittedly the site in questions has a fraction of the members of this one, and susequently it took less time for each search. I say 'each search' as I just could not find the offending message.

Funny that

Re: Promotion!

I feel very sorry for Stirling, his paintings are lovely and he must have been upset to mention it in the first place. However, I agree with Stuart, it's not fair to have people Badger or bully other members and it is possible they've maybe upset others we don't know about.

Think you may need some whisky to go with your pro plus stuart Good luck.

and there was me thinking that I was more like Magnum than Columbo...

If you saw the Dobermans that help us with some of this sort of IT (I'll put them on the job if I don't get any results ) then you'd see that I only need a ferrari and a bushy tosh and I'd have the full set

oh, and of course I'd also need the house in Hawaii

and the stunning bikini-clad ladies

and the helicopter

and the...

OK, I give up, I guess I'm more like Columbo.

Stu

P.S. (in Columbo accent, scratching my head, wearing a crumbled coat with a cigar) "Before I go, there's just one more thing that's been puzzling me ma'am..."
