| | | Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Hi All,
In a rather grumpy mood this morning so I thought I'd find out what things, no matter how small, really get up your nose.
I'll kick off with a touchy subject of mine and that's bad spelling, grammar and sentence structure. I'm not talking accidental typos but consistent clangers and text speak. Also, don't get me started on people who use 'like' in completely inappropriate places, e.g. I was like down at the shops. You either were or you weren't there is no like. It's almost as bad as, whatever. Bloomin Americans.
Enjoy the last day of summer folks, in two months Christnas will be over
Cheers,

I am at work and was in before 7am after leaving after 10pm last night, so I'm in a foul mood also.
Punctuality (or rather lack of) is my pet hate. It is SO rude!
There simply is no excuse for it.
"Oh, the traffic was bad"....
You KNOW the traffic might be bad. Allow for it.
It REALLY winds me up (and it has again this morning with my colleague).
Other things that really (like!) get my goat are:
Unnecessary noise - you know - slamming doors or throwing them shut, mobile phones or radios in the countryside, loud people etc...
I think Ricky Gervaise had BOTH of the above on his Room 101 episode. That reminds me. Another one: People who say ECK- CETERA. I know its petty, but in case you were in any doubt, look at the abbreviated spelling!
Cor. I'm (like) on one here.
Mr. Rantypants. (This morning, anyway).

What really gets up my nose, are those people who clear up behind their dogs, and THEN hang the bag in a tree like a trophy!
Now, I can't say here what I feel or would like to do to those who partake in that little trick!
Oh, and “init” “like” and “Know what I mean” along with any expletives that seem to fall out of the mouths of some individuals each time they speak drives me crazy!

I concur! My fiancee is a secondary school biology teacher and I get to hear all that from her. THis goes very deep indeed - no authority figures any more - the police are toothless, as are teachers, as these days, are parents, it would seem.
A bit of discipline is needed!
HUMPF!

Mark H | I work with many many young people who a very pleasant and helpful, some of the older adults ...... well that's another story !
I loath being supposedly corrected when I pronounce the letter H 'aitch' and someone comes back with 'haitch' in a condesending tone, Grrr!!
I also get very annoyed when people are out walking with their children and they let them tear branches off trees or trash flowers, makes me very angry. It happened to us last week and my partner told the young boy there were snakes in the bushes. He soon ran off, however, I fear he may now have a fear of undergrowth

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Well, when you look at some of the ignorant/disrespectful grown ups around its no wonder it rubs off on their kids. I`ve brought my daughter up on my own since she was a baby, and if i`ve only managed to teach her one thing its to treat other people with respect.

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Very true mh68.
I remember when I was young my mum's friends saying how 'kids today'(that wld be in the 70s) were disrespectful and rude then. I think there's good and bad in all sections of people from toddlers to our older people. Except Wabbers hee hee
...and while we're on the rude subject, I also have low regard for people who barge their trolley into people in the supermarket and block the shelves with them while they take 10 minutes to choose their cheese.

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Just one or two that immediately spring to mind:
1. People who repeatedly brag about the value of their house/pension (sad/boring)
2. Using text abbreviations in emails (lazy)
3. People being late (stealing my time)
4. The use of "your" when they mean "you're" (you are). Mostly from across the pond
5. Again, from across the pond, the use of "then" when it should be "than". For example "more then you can eat".
6. All soap operas.
There are more, but life's too short.

Very true. I know its ridiculous - but another one for me regarding supermarket trolleys is people who push them around without standing up straight, ie leaning over them with their backsides in the air.
I really am grumpy today!

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Yes, there were kids like that when I was young too.It just seems more commonplace these days. The difference for most of us back then though, was the fact that if we got into trouble we knew we`d get a good hiding when we got home if our parents found out
These days some kids run rings round their parents, i`ve even heard of kids calling the likes of Childline and getting their parents into trouble just because they couldnt have their own way over something.Somethings gone wrong somewhere I think....

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Another thing that really annoys me is when children are allowed to chase birds. It can be anything, garden birds, gulls are a common one but by far the most common bird being chased and harassed has to be the pigeon in town centres. Yes I know it's just a feral Pigeon but I don't think it teaches the children to respect animals. |

Radio presenters who use "fer" for for, and "ter" for to are annoying because with radio it somehow is more obvious
My pet hate is selfishness which results in being unkind to others or animals and manifests itself in all kinds of ways!! |

Yep, I've always been taught 'aitch' too, most people confuse the name of the letter with the sound, that's why I get so annoyed. People are being pedantic but in error

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! I agree with virtually all of the above comments, especially regarding bad manners and poor spelling. My pet hate is people parking in mobility parking slots without a badge. I suffer from asthma and have a mobility badge and often find cars without badges filling the mobility bays at supermarkets. |

| | | Re: Pet hates, peeves, and bugbears! Heres another of mine. A strange one I know.
Why is it that EVERY pre-packed sandwich I look at has slices of tomato in it?
Even when its not mentioned on the packaging!
Not keen on sandwiches with tomato slices you'll guess.
Weird I know - I just thought I'd bring it up.
