| | | The Dark is Rising At long last 'they' have decided to make a film out of the classic children's book The Dark is Rising and it's out soon. Hopefully they won't have done a Harry Potter on it and ripped out the central story and replaced it with too many special effects. Ironically, it was only last week that I was trying to describe it to my wife as we were discussing what books we would read to our son when he's old enough
My form teacher read this to us 27 years ago and I enjoyed the book so much I read the whole series of books. I am a little puzzled as to why they have started with the second book in the series. Perhaps this is a one-off.
What's it got to do with nature? Well not a great deal to be honest, but if they are true to the book then it should be quite magical, particularly if you like good against bad stories with a hint of paganism thrown in. Herne the Hunter is one of the main characters, but it is set in a snow bound Thames Valley.
In my opinion the series of books rank second only to Tolkien. Anyone else read them?
Cheers,
Adam |

| | | Re: The Dark is Rising Hi Jez,
The trailers for it have just started appearing on tv and it is already out in the states. I have read lots of previews and it has been universally panned. The production company are a very religious bunch and have removed all of the non-christian elements to the story, which is pretty much all of it including Herne who is a guiding hand to Will Stanton in the story . If you like fantasy and have not read the books then you might enjoy the film. It has been americanized for the mass market though by all accounts. Adam | Umm shame it could do with good direction like Guillermo Del Toro who directed Pans Labyrinth or Pete Jackson!
