The part work called the Country Companion?

6 volumes, broken down into habitat, ie, rivers and lakes, moorland, coast etc. A fascinating journal of the English Countryside. Wonder if it's likely to be reissued?

As a side note, what reference books do you take on walks? As spring finally hits, we always have the I-Spy guide to wild flowers - broken down into flower colours, is great for id's on the fly!

I only take the Collins Bird Guide on Ipaq although sometimes the RSPB/Dorling Kindersly Bird guide also.I find that better than the Collins.

Don't take anything else.........got enough weight with the scope and tripod.

Although i do find myself wondering what certain plants/trees/insects are at times.

I used to take field guides out with me, but I now reserve these for long-stay trips in other parts of the country, or if visiting new habitats, or if I'm researching difficult species such as fungi or plants. I now usually just take a notebook/sketchpad out with me.
