| | | What a boring time What a boring time I have had this last fortnight. I have been on a working holiday in Lesvos. I photographed all of the local archetectural ruins during the mornings and had to spend the rest of the day sitting by the pool, drinking Ouzo. Luckily the temperature was down to about 33C, so I didn't suffer too much.
I had the odd day off and so I visited the local viewing platform/hide and photographed the flamingos and black storks and a lone pelican. When I got bored with this, I went to see the turtle colony and photographed them and their companion fish.
On Tuesday, I nipped over to Pergamon and photographed the ruins there. What a terrible life I lead. I have been appointed an assistant twitcher. I find the birds and photograph them, but I haven't a clue what they are. |

| | | Re: What a boring time It would be a really cheap holiday for anyone who is interested in the fauna and flora of the island. The next time I visit will be much easier as I know where everything is, so I can go straight there instead of having to search.
The storks had departed but their nests were still there and were being used by sparrows who were living in the side of the nests. The pelican was a left over from a previous migration and he found things so good there, that he has stayed on. You don't have to search for him: he visits the taverners each evening where he gets fed.
Talking to people who visit the island to see the birds each year, the best time is the last week in April and the first week in May. The turtles are there all of the year, as are the 'local birds'. I didn't manage to find the terrapins which live in the water from the hot springs. This could be because of the shortage of water this year. There have only been two days of light rain since May. But people do say that they have seen them this year.
I will post the images to my site as soon as I have sorted them out, but it may take a week or so as there are a lot of them. |
