| | | British Snake Laws I am hoping that I can get some help! I currently live in the US and I have a collection of Green Tree Pythons. My understanding is that it is legal to own these animals as pets in the UK. I am curious as to where I could find information regarding the laws pertaining to keeping snakes as pets in the UK (regarding which species are permitted and which are not).
Thank you in advance for any help

| | | Re: British Snake Laws I am pretty sure that it is against the law to remove any snake from the wild and quite rightly so. Escaped alien species would be a different thing altogether. If you google "british countryside act" you may well find the answer to your question. |

Not can I steal some British species.
I think that they would be listed under the CITES legislation if they could not be legally imported to the UK?

| | | Re: British Snake Laws The keeping of dangerous pets is covered by the Dangerous Wild Animals Act of 1976. This link is a list of all species currently requiring a license to be kept as pets: http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-cou...animallist.pdf
As far as I know, if its not on that list, there are no restrictions.

the basic problem is that we are all wildlife enthusiasts/ experts - wheras i would suggest that david nj would be better off asking snake keepers in the uk who could give a more definitive picture of the law. Once good place to go would be Reptile Forums UK - Care, Pictures, Classifieds & More
