| | | Most photos taken in one day I went to London zoo today and I've taken 750+ photos (filled up my 2gb card and a bit of my 512mb) and was impressed by the fact my battery lasted 350+ photos too, on my Fz7. Whats the most my fellow WABers have taken in one day? |

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day Ive been known to take more than four hundred in a four hour spell when out birding and it's been going well. Mind you I always have the camera on continuous shooting and think nothing of taking more than a dozen shots of the same subject to try and get that one special shot. Most of them end up getting binned though once I've checked them on the computer.

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day On my recent visit to Gigrin farm I took 1,171 images. I'm not so sure this is necessarily a good thing. Sometimes I shoot before I think, I'm often annoyed by some of the basic silly mistakes I make.
I'm sure if I was paying for processing I'd be much more careful and probably end up with just as good images. |

With the digital camera it is easy to process them and pick what you want to keep.
When we used film the most we ever took was on a trip to Whitby - 17 rolls of 36 exposures, 692 pictures, fortunately we had our own darkroom and only printed the ones we wanted.
I love this new technology, plus the cameras and lenses are getting lighter for me to be able to carry on taking photos.

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day I used to take 400 to 500 on a 4 day break. But it takes a lot of time editing and organising. I now concentrate on trying to get the shot right first time and have probably more than halved that number.
I think if you have the time, then keep on snapping ! But make sure that you're on top of the editing/organising process or you'll be overwhelmed by the sheer number of images.
That pin sharp image you should post on this site will be lost amongst the many thousands of others on your hard drive.

I quite often shoot and worry about the fine details later - especially of an insect that is likely to fly away any second - my attitude is get something, anything, then worry about the finer points! Particularly I will try to get a fairly low magnification picture before getting closer to the animal with the likelihood of scaring it off.
Mind, this is such an ingrained habit that I do it with plants Quote:

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day Depending on where I'm walking I can take between 120 - 350 pictures. Many of these are duplicates. After downloading to the PC I have a sort through to pick the best of the duplicates , then I have to pick about 30 from what is left for the website. Sometimes I can't do this and will have to split the walk into 2 parts.

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day On birding trips abroad I have been to take well in excess of 1,000 images in a day and probably in excess of 8,000 in a week.
In Britain usually not so many, as in most cases I already have images of most birds I come across, but even here I can take in excess of 600 images if the conditions are right.
I think the problem in the good old UK is how close you are to birds. Abroad you seem to be able to be in a position to take good images as you have better light conditions plus the birds seem that much more confiding so are close to you. In Britain I don't think we are so fortunate, as the light conditions for the most part are not so ideal plus generally the birds are not so confiding.

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day The most I've taken in a day is about 160 - this was on a long local walk where I happened to come across many wildflowers I'd not seen before. I always take several shots of each plant, as I'm not too good at getting my compact camera to focus in Macro mode.
Normally when I go for a long walk I take about 50-60 photos, showing the paths I follow and any good views or interesting buildings I come across. |

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day on wildlife i think my highest total was just over a thousand on diving gannets - 4 useable shots out of that lot.
however i recently covered a rugby fixture (full day of 7s matches) and completely filled 5 2GB cards 4 1GB cards , and 2 512 gb cards - a total of 15gb or roughly 4500 photos

We used to meet up at the same events, where you'd have to go back with a useable record and no second chance. Barry's style was to start early, work fast, then say "right, I've got *a* shot, now the pressure's off and the rest of the time I can try to get *THE* shot. it's still a real good way to work. |

| | | Re: Most photos taken in one day I don't think I've quite hit 1000 in a day yet. The closest was probably at one of the Hyde Park Calling rock concerts.
For wildlife I managed about 750 on a visit to WWT Welney, but that was very shortly after I'd bought the camera and the novelty of not having to worry about processing costs made me a bit snap-happy. I clocked up about 1100 on a two day visit to Minsmere earlier this year.
I'm getting better at deleting images but still keep too many. I started off keeping just about everything that was sharp and correctly exposed even if it meant I had a dozen virtually identical shots. Nowadays I will only keep the very best two or three from a series like that, which is arguably still one or two too many.
