Had a good day, although it took us ages to think of where to go..Ended up at Thorsby Park, with some very interesting (at least to me!) sightings.
Firstly I discovered a Hornets nest:



Then witnessed a Pike capturing a huge fish:




A Heron decided to drop in for luch at the same spot!



Then we saw three pairs of Common Darters, still at it!



All this was within a few minutes of each other, all on the same stretch of river.

This was quickly followed by an excellent luch before visiting one of my favourite bird feeding sites:




Not a bad day at all.

The Pike was very unexpected. There were two of them there. I didn''t realise there were Pike in this small strech of water, it's very shallow water, no more than a couple of feet deep at the most. I think they could have been washed out of the lake over during the recent floods, when this area was under water.

Both way too big for the Heron, although there was plenty of smaller fish for it.

Derek and I had a fruitful day in the garden, harvesting beetroot, shallots, garlic, borlotti beans, tomatoes (currently having to eat those for every meal ) and cavolo nero. Followed by beetroot/shallot pickling and making of ribolitta soup. Are we smug or what??
