| | | Did you have a cuddly toy as a child. As its pouring down here and theres not much going on outside
to look at ..thought i would put a post out asking as a child what toy or so called comforter did you have and if so did it have a name.
I brought each of my children a small furry animal when they were born which many yrs later they still have somewhere..Im sure it helps to encourage some form of love and effection at an early stage which i feel helps later in life.
Well mine was a golliwog as it was known back then, not hard to guess
I called it golli.

Julie | hi julie this is a good one let me think,i had a golly wog ( not supposed to youse that word now )but that wasnt my favourite a rag doll was my best one, she was dressed in pritty cloths and long blond hair, her name was lizzy web, dont ask me where that name came from cos i dont know, now my two year old grandaughter has a pair of her summer shorts as a comforter, they have a little rubber motive on them and thats what she likes to hold when she gets tired, she puts it on her cheek thumb in mouth and away she goes to nod land,us humans are strange when you think what we do. |

Julie | My God Mother gave me a small teddy on my first birthday, 40 years later I still have it, although it is well worn and patched. I called it Baby teddy. My wife thinks it looks to scary for a child, I suppose that may explain a few things!!
These days I also have a Sad Sam. He comes with me on my overseas trips with the RAF, he's well travelled, Cyprus, The Falklands, Basrah, Malaysia, and The UAE.

PS Cazzie has your Ted got bells in its ears?

Incidentally, I have my mothers teddy too and it's now 66yrs old! Silly woman was going to chuck it away when it was found in her parents house after they had passed away

| | | Re: Did you have a cuddly toy as a child. The toy I was closest to as a child was a "tiny tears" Doll. She was named Shelley and came everywhere with me, even on holiday with her very own case of clothes. After a few years one of her legs fell off and my dad fixed it back on but it continued to fall off and eventually she was left with one leg but I loved her to bits. Then her eyes broke and she was stuck permanently with one eye open and one closed. I never replaced her as my fave toy though. I feel all sentimental now. |

His name is Teddy Edward, he's filled with sawdust and growls when you tip him over. many years ago (in the 1960s I think) he stopped growling so underwent an operation to fix his growl which I recall involved sellotape and then he got stitched back up again. He still growls! He's very faded but in the crease of his (moveable) arms and legs you can still see his original golden fur. He's watching me as I write ....

Rose | Yes, yes - You are describing my bear exactly. He sits on the mantlepiece in our bedroom. No growl now as I never had the heart to open up Ted. Also he has lost the Chad Valley tab on his tummy. Received on my first Christmas in 1956.
