Re: Bluetongue disease

Could this be down to climate change? It looks serious & nasty for the poor victims

Not sure about the climate change issue but I feel for British farmers.

Re: Bluetongue disease

There was an item about Bluetongue only last week on Countryfile, saying how prevalent it was on near continent + to look out for it. Sadly it's now here in Suffolk + looks very distressing for the animals involved.

Re: Bluetongue disease

So if the disease can't be passed from animal to animal, only through the bite of the particular midge, then the midge is new to this country?

Re: Bluetongue disease

There talking about using insecticide today - and I imagine farmers will start filling in ponds etc to keep down midge numbers. So its bad news for wildlife too

Re: Bluetongue disease

It'd be best if we had a cold snap that finished them off (the midges).

Re: Bluetongue disease

Any chance the midge might have escaped from a government research centre like the foot and mouth did....?

Wow, there's a thought! It makes you wonder doesn't it? Anything is possible, (except the truth, perhaps?).
