I got connected to BT home hub last night. Its quick as lightening - 48Mbps whatever that means. Great to have the freedom to sit in the back garden and play on WAB

How do you, '...play on WAB.' - are we all a virtual boardgame?
Stripee, I know nothing about these options but my son has gone for wireless ... adds a bit to the cost of your computer I gather but works more or less anywhere ....
Strange things cables, our one stops after us, going out of Sheffield - just before one of the richest parts of the town where there must be lots of pennies to be made

Re: dial up internet anyone?

Go wireless - Marconi did and look what happened
Seriously though check out the BT website or Virgin. Just put in your postcode to see if you are able to get "Wi-Fi" where you are.

Re: dial up internet anyone?

Thanks for ideas. I checked the wireless option on bt website but nearest hot spot is 5 miles away, so its too far off to work. When the local exchanges were first enabled for broadband everyone thought they would get it, but as it turned out quite a lot can't. As in outer Sheffield, Cumbria, parts of Devon etc, if you live a long way from the exchange. BT could spend some more money on it but no sign. Need it to be beamed in from somewhere definitely living in the dark ages

Hi strpee
Sorry you cant get broadband there is solution but it is very expensive and that is satellite broadband .
With this system you can get broadband any were in the country, if you could justify it for a business I think there are tax allowances which would hep with the cost it is very expensive .
Try this link there may be cheaper ones........
Satellite Broadband | Internet Access | ADSL
Martin
PS. you could alway lobby your MP "that lot down there in Parliament are always going on about the INTERNET age "

Re: dial up internet anyone?

Have a look to see if there's a local petition to get broadband to your area. That's what happened in my village and BT eventually relented and upgraded our exchange.

We are wireless now, which is nice when you want to surf and watch something on telly, or check your emails in the garden .

Re: dial up internet anyone?

eeek I had a look at the price of satellite, unless its for a business its a lot of money. I can get internet of a sort on my mobile, cept to get mobile reception have to go outside ha ha maybe mobile internet will develop so its better.TV digital and radio reception is very good, there's a massive mast with red flashing lights can see from here pity it can't be used, maybe something will happen eventually or will have to see if can get campaign going with others left behind!!.
