We're having roast pork - the crackling is coming on a treat. As the weather has been so bad I had planned roast potatoes but as it has been so hot today they're now minted boiled potatoes no fancy veg though - just local broad beans, peas and some carrots

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

Having made a complete pigs ear of dins (my cooking is usually okay but when I mess up....!!) am contemplating making a crumble or something as we have some cream to use up and no fridge...that's my excuse anyway

Oh yes I'd love an allotment but am likely to be moving soon. I can't win with tomatoes for some reason, but have chillies, courgettes and runner beans on the go this year all looking ok so far!

I did have about five varieties of chilli but red spider mite killed all the seedlings only left with a purple one with purple fruit, a stunted purple cayenne and two apache.

Does anyone have a good recipe for Chilli jam?

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

If you get a glut of courgettes which is more than likely they make a delicious soup.

This courgette and potato soup recipe by Nick Nairn is very nice.

BBC - Food - Recipes - Courgette and potato soup

Didn't get home until around 8 last night so we had a curry.

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

Roast pork here today.

Went strawberry picking again today so that is pud sorted!!!

Also in the farm shop I managed to get some fresh yeast which I'm mega chuffed with as I've got a lovely bag of organic malt flour that requires the use of fresh yeast so I'll be having a go at that tonight and might even use my new loaf tin that I bought too!!

Jez beat me to it with the mention of squid, one of me favorites done in olive oil and garlic or fried with chilli and coconut flakes.Used to scrounge some dried squid from the Chinese fireman on one of me boats, eta it like chewing gum.Sounds revolting to some maybe but its addictive and 4 billion Chinese people can't be wrong .

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

Sunday lunch was really Saturday tea but... Homemade pizza (wholemeal base with seeds) tomato and garlic sauce..chorizo, wild mushrooms, red pepper, red onion, olives with buffalo mozzarella, smoked cheese and strong cheddar. Seemed to go down well and I have to cook it when Kayleigh and I go to visit Seamus later this year!!

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

As a child Sunday dinner was nearly always lamb, and served up spot on when the
Billy Cotton band show started, then it was two way family favorites

Re: Traditional Sunday Lunch

We have our Sunday lunch at tea time Because the weather is so blinking miserable at the moment we're having roast beef with yorkshires, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots and mashed swedes (these are from my FILs garden) - then for afters (if we can manage it LOL) I've made a blackberry and apple pie - the berries are from the brambles growing in my hedge and the apples are from my little 3in1 tree which always fall off before they ripen but hopefully they'll be OK in a pie
