| | | Moving Today sees me move to sunny Doncaster after 4 lovely years in my place in Little Aston. I dare say I'll be itching to explore the locality so any suggestions would be most welcome.
Cheers |

Cheers | Doncaster? Your getting rather close to my territory Andrew..
On that front, a few good places you'll be within an easy hours drive, Clumber Park is an obvious one, it's National trust property, with enormous grounds. Thorsby Park, which is close to Clumber is also a good one, excellent open park lands worth a visit at any time, especially when the Swallows arrive. They nest very close to the cafe in an open courtyard for all to see.
Rufford Park, if you look through my gallery you'll see loads of my images are from there.
All these sites are within a few miles of each other, all accessed from the A614.

Cheers | Hi Andrew, hope all goes well and you quickly settle into your new home. You will only be around 45 minutes from my local patch Messingham Sands. Anytime after you have settled in I would be more than pleased to give you a guided tour

Good luck on the move mate and I hope you settle in quickly.
I'm with Jules on this one. I don't know about Doncaster but does the County know what's going to hit them.

I don't really know about birds but you've been given some leads there. Not all that far from Hatfield/Thorne Moors.
Closer to Doncaster proper, the Don valley by Conisbrough (that doesn't look like the correct spelling) is interesting for plants (cuts into the Magnesian) and therefore for insects. Lots of walks from Conisbrough station along the valley and up to the moors ...
Glad to see that you're approaching civilisation Quote:

I notice that most of the other comments talk about driving to sites ... you should learn that South Yorkshire has an excellent public transport system so that cars are seldom necessary. And once you get to be a certified 'old git' the transport is absolutely free!

| | | Re: Moving Thanks for all of the messages guys. I had a bit of a drive round at the weekend and there definitely looks to be some good potential. The move has only just started but I have been accepted by the dogs, a couple of patterdale terriers and am already feeling very much at home. I will have concluded the move by 10th October, as am spending the first week in October in Turkey.
My new job sees me looking after the whole of the south of Britain, so effectively south Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and anywhere south of these counties. I will be staying in hotels 3 or 4 nights a week so will want to get out as much as possible so Donny will be safe a few nights a week |

We've got some very nice reserves!
Blond moment....who's Donny?

| | | Re: Moving I went to Fairburn Ings last night and that certainly seems to have some promise. The pub in the village that overlooks it is friendly too and the food great by the way.
Today I am off to North Yorks. Not sure where yet. May even go east and over to the coast. |
