I mean he drops Beckham and then recalls him now Heskey.. how long before he tries to get Shearer and Sherringham back

If we are that desperate for Players isnt it about time we started to look outside the prem teams for our Players.. We cant have it all ways... bringing in Hundreds of Top foreign players So our Youngsters dont get a look in and then whinge because we cant get a decent England team together..

| | | Re: World Cups It does make me laugh how down people are on Emile Heskey. I have watched him since he was a kid and I bet most of his old teams would have him back. Same doubting Thomas's used to bang on about Crouch.
Heskey, like Crouch, has never professed to be great with a first touch but he needs two players marking him, and in footballing terms thats worth so much. When did Rooney last score, but everyone bangs on about him likes he is the messiah.
Heskey is also the consumate professional. Never courts the press, never gets into trouble, despite coming from a rough area and having relatives that are into allsorts
I guess its just become fashionable to slate players like Heskey. You should maybe actually try watching him properly though. Because personally I think you have no idea what you are talking about |

| | | Re: World Cups Regarding the football. Don't go early unless you fancy getting picked!
Seriously, the league football is destroying our game. While the top (financially secure) teams buy foreign players to get the best and win silverware, what happens to our own players? Before long the English team will be drawn from the amateur league. |

Because personally I think you have no idea what you are talking about | The problem is we are so dependant on players like heskey and beckham that when they become to old or get injured and can no longer play we have no one to take there Places.. We did the same with Seaman, we dont give others a chance before their careers end then we come unstuck...We are meant to buliding a team for the next world cup etc we need younger players Surely!

| | | Re: World Cups Well done for admitting that Heskey can be useful in the right team - what I think significant is that it was a pretty good result (not the greatest opposition but not rubbish, either) and demonstrated that England does not need Beckham - the manager did a good job in dropping him and a stupid one by bringing him back. Nothing against Beckham as a player but he is over the hill and unnecessary. I'm beginning to feel the same about Lampard - team does better without him?
There's this big star thing - why did Chelsea want to buy Schevchenko (spelling?) and Ballack? Great players in their day but a serious waste of money really ... and now they're talking about spending vast amounts of money on Ronaldinho --- again, another great but on the downward slope. I suspect that Arsenal and Liverpool over recent years have made far better investments ...
Sorry, that was a diversion from international football but still relevent - who would Germany prefer to have up front, Ballack or Klose? Look at what other teams are doing in getting rid of their idols ... England should be doing the same: forget Beckham, full stop, don't worry too much if Lampard is unavailable .... there's plenty of new life ... as well as Heskey! Quote:

As for Ballack I'm not sure he is past his best yet although if he doesn't get his act together soon it is possible he could end up that way.
In England I'm afraid we have always been reluctant to let go of players who are obviously past their best or injured and trying new blood (remember Bryan Robson trying to play with a dislocated shoulder in the 86 world cup or the constant trying to get Shearer out of retirement ) |
