| | | I know sheep aren't really Wildlife, but ... ... I thought you might be amused (or bemused) by this photo.
I took the photo near Grasmere in the Lake District, back in May (I just came across it again as I was idly browsing through my photos this afternoon). Not sure which is odder, the sheep eating leaves or the fact its standing on a wall with a seven-fot drop on one side.
Obviously the leaves are far tastier than its usual diet - which for Lake District sheep mainly consists of walker's packed lunches! |

That photo reminds me of when we were on our way home from Keswick last year and there were 2 sheep running along the top of a wall right by the road!! My heart was in my mouth for the whole time we could see them!
Looks like it may be a regular occurrence though and the sheep equivilent to extreme sports as a way to pass the time!!
Lovely photo!

| | | Re: I know sheep aren't really Wildlife, but ... Funny pic ... but a reminder of why sheep and their cousins can be so dangerous to natural ecosystems. They will eat anything and, while they can actually be useful in maintaining some grassland systems, they are absolutely destructive of woodland - especially goats which are better at climbing trees than their relatives! Sheep will just stop woodland regenerating whereas goats will kill it off immediately ...

Iolo Williams calls sheep 'woolly maggots', very apt I'd say. Tho the lambs are a bit cute

It reminds me of many sightings in the mountains and uplands of the UK of sheep in all sorts of various precarious situations .... all presumably because the grass is greener on the other side
I guess a few must make a mistake and then become eagle, buzzard and raven fodder!

| | | Re: I know sheep aren't really Wildlife, but ... Nice shot, wonderful animals we call them hill maggots(look at them
on a hill in the distance) they are so stupid, one place we used to fish
they would gather around to see what we were doing at the bottom
of a steep bank craning their necks until we had an avalanche of sheep

Nice pic though. Nice looking sheep. Herdwick? | Yes Varan, I think it's a Herdwick. They usually have a quite comical bemused look on their white faces. |
