| | | Re: Expensive eggs A woman from Cwmbran, Torfaen took out a bank loan
and lived on beans on toast for a year
to pay £1,800 in vet bills
They could have lived on fried chicken for a week and be nearly 2 grand better off.....

| | | Re: Expensive eggs Well it seems I am probably in the minority here but surely a pet is a pet be it a chicken, dog, cat, hamster or whatever. Surely this chicken has a right to the same quality of life as any other pet. Fair play to the lady in my opinion and I admire her for her the way she has treated this chicken.

jaki | Thanks Jaki, we have many pets and although we don't have a chicken it would be treated the same as any of the other pets we have if it needed veterinary treatment regardless of cost.

Roger | A pet is a pet, not matter what type of creature it is. When you bond with an animal, you learn to appreciate it's qualities and characteristics. It's a bird, most people have little regard for. I suppose if it had been a parrot, no-one would have questioned it?
I'm not sure what I would do, if it was my chicken. |

| | | Re: Expensive eggs The chicken's name is lily and this all came about after she snagged her drumstick on barbed wire. At first they tried to save the leg, but this failed and so amputation was carried out. Other expenses included lily's treatment for depression (well, this is what I read).

| | | Re: Expensive eggs Myfriend has 50 chickens.. believe me they are all individuals.. with so many different characteristics. One likes to be tickled...another wont lay in the garden but has to go next door. They are wonderful critters. They all seem to be very affectionate with her too
jaki
PS. I am currently fostering some birds and a guinea pig...they all have different little characters... I may have them some time and I know I will miss them when they go

| | | Re: Expensive eggs Good on the lady. As Ollie says, a pet is a pet.
Once, when we were visiting a farm in Sussex, we were astounded when a domestic duck started circling the farmer while he was talking to us. He promptly said to excuse him but his duck wants a cuddle. He then picked this duck up that was holding out it's wings, ready to be lifted, up into his arms, where it wrapped it's neck around and under his chin and stayed there for the rest of our conversation!!!!
True story and a scene I'll never forget that's for sure.
