| | | Cheap maps I'd like to share with people using this forum a website I have found that does cheap maps - OS Explorer maps for £5.99 and free postage, and quick delivery.
Unfortunately there is a rule that says users of WAB aren't allowed to promote any companies, so I guess that means I am not allowed to do that.
Am I being a being a bit strict in interpreting this rule? I wan't to name the site to help WABers not the company.
And if there are cheaper places to get the maps, I'd like others to be able to tell me.
So, if any one in a position to do so tells me that it would be OK to name the site, I will post it here later. Otherwise, as it stands, if anyone wants to know what the website is, PM me and I'll let you know direct.

| | | Re: Cheap maps I thought that it was okay to pass on such hints and tips as long as you don't suggest that WAB is sponsoring them or you're not selling them yourself!
I'd find it useful - costs of these things mount up .... Quote:

| | | Re: Cheap maps the no comercial contacts rule came about because some people ( I hold my guilty hand up , it wuz me yoer honour ( well not me alone but i was one of the perpetrators )) were over plugging a certain ebay trader and i gather there was a complaint from a competitor.
There was also the secondary consideration that we regularly report / and mods remove spam posting reccomending certain companies and this is much harder to justify if regular members are posting similar things themselves (all be it with better motivations)
therefore stu banned the posting of comercial links and recmendations - however he did say that there was a degree of flexibility in this aty the mods discretion , and but that we should bear in mind the potential for complaints particularly if mentioning ebay traders or small niche companies ( Ie thee is much less chance of say jessops complaining about us recomending digital depot or vice versa)
Unfortunately I have a nasty feeling that your map company might fall into the small site/ niche market category
For a definitive decision pm glsammy, Matt_xyz, Fourwings, or Oy, or Fungi John (as i think stu is away at the mo)
also is 5.99 really that cheap for an explorer map ? - I seem to recall that the RRP is about 6.99 and I've seen them for less than that in local bookshops

| | | Re: Cheap maps Thanks eeyore
I'll PM someone for guidance.
I think £5.99 is cheap - otherwise the cheapest I have seen them routinely round here is £7.50. I have about 70 Explorers, that would have saved me quite a bit. I also like quick free delivery, as I can't always get into town to track one down before I head off into new territory for a job. Most convenient.
Until I hear back, I repeat the invitation to anyone to contact me if they want the details.
Cheers
Sven

| | | Re: Cheap maps yu are right - i was getting confused with the 1:50 000 ones.
btw can you still get those green fronted ones (path finder ?) which were 1:25000 and only about £4 but show a smaler area than explorer.
Finally I'd just mention that a quick google search ( other search engines are available ) for "OS explorer maps" brings up the 5.99 outlet in question about 5 or so down from the top of the page.

| | | Re: Cheap maps Unfortunately our latest guidelines are very specific, i.e.: "You may not advertise any products, services or suppliers."
That's not to say you can't comment on any personal experiences you've had with any company, but we now don't allow any direct links to commercial sites, without direct authority from Stu. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
