16. (this has actually happened ) when some one crashes into the undergrowth off the footpath to find out why you're not on said footpath, do not, under any circumstances tell them you're surveying the plants. you will inevitably have to listen to them tell you about some wildflower they found and have to try to id it from some vague dsescription. this will take at least 30minutes, by which point you will be close to doing something horrible to them just to get rid so you can go back to work. tell them you're looking for lichens. people don't care about lichens! | my favorite possible answers however are
a) I'm watching the grass grow
b) shh its a top secret surveilance operation
c) I'm waiting for a womble to come out of that hole
or
d) the ubiquitous "wibble"

| | | Re: 10 things to remember when you go into the countryside If kneeling down in the middle of a large field to photograph something and you need to remove spectacles to do so and you put them carefully on the ground beside you.... don't a) kneel or lean on them when adjusting to a better position or b) get up and move away 'cos you'll never be able to see them again if you're half-blind without 'em and it's amazing how things disappear among even the shortest grass (see dropped pens, above!) I nearly did the first and did do the second while photographing Primula Scotica on an Orkney cliff-top a few years ago. Fortunately, I hadn't moved too far away and was lucky to find my glasses, but oh boy, did I panic there for a while!
People tend to ignore me if they walk by when I'm bottom-up somewhere photographing a flower or a fungus and hubby is generally far enough away so he looks as if I'm not with him - I just really hate it when their dogs trot up and leap at me while trampling whatever it is I was trying to take pics of.... |

| | | Re: 10 things to remember when you go into the countryside lens caps are clearly related to both pens and socks because it is a cast iron rule of photography / nature watching that however many lens caps you set out with you will have one less than your total number of lenses when you return

( not that you need it, since you're a wabber) its the ones who come across with that bustling manner and talk at you for ages before asking you about some obscure little plant they found growing in some undefineable place that really get to you.

P.S. 'parsley' is the collective noun for cowpats! |

i dream of a world where man and cow parsley may one day live in harmony.obviously, people like you should be made to eat your own mud and trampled cow parslry soaked boots for even thinking of such a sick and disgusting idea in the first place. parsley has feelings too,ya know! |
