Number plates

Went out yesterday and got pulled over by the police because some thief had stolen our car number plates!!
Whats that all about?
Going to be some crime somewhere i think!!

Not me but maybe the people who have put them on another car to do some kind of raid.

a guy i work with had his number plates nicked as well. he kept getting parking tickets sent to him from london, even though he was clearly in blackburn!!

We were told about this number plate theiving at the Police liason meetings here in Derby, its not just the parking tickets you will get Jen, but your car may be seen ram raiding Anne Summers, lol the mind boggles, with apologie, Jon

jen, get a crime number and let the DVLA know pronto, or else as almostnormal says, you'll be swamped with parking tickets or worse.

Hi, there are apparently about 50,000 "cloned" cars running around the UK right now.
The trick is to have or steal a car of the same make/colour as the number plate so that owner/tax/insurance details check out. It doesn't pass close inspection but it's good enough for speed cameras, congestion charges and stuff like that.
The better class of cloner just notes the target car and makes up plates (including fictitious supplier ID's) so you don't even know it's happened. I think plates are nicked by amatuers without the contacts to have them made up, which probably means they can't get a decent fake tax disc either, but you might still get some tickets through the mail.

The police gave us a crime number and said carry your licence around but you maybe get stopped alot..
Its my husbands car though not my car so im alright

I had my car plate cloned a few years back, a health authority in London kept sending me letters, about us parking with out a permit, and a fine to go with it.
Think I ended up having to ring them, as there was no way, I had been driving in London.
In the end they didn`t bother me again.
