yup...its just not as good as myspace/ spaces live. i'm only using facebook (very rarely check it) because i was told to join so my mate could keep up to date.

its easier to set up one of the others and email it to your mates!

yeah i'm on there. i find it better than myspace as its more grown up! people use their real names and i've found a few friends ive not been in touch with for 10+years. i think there's gotta be a mix - myspace for music and stuff, facebook for finding & keeping in touch with friends, forums like WAB for advice and info, flickr for sharing photoa, sykpe for conversations, and the real world (tm) for actually being with people you like and love!

I have been sent invitations by people for Facebox, Hotornot and probably others. However, I haven't joined.
I do spend a lot of time on various messageboards (this nick is a new name for me!) and on The Open University's conference/messageboard thing. I also blog - mainly gardening related stuff.

Not tried facebook but i`ve been on similar sites in the past.Too many scammers for my liking plus a wide assortment of internet weirdos

I discovered facebook last month and have got in touch with people I haven't seen since I was a kid almost 20 years ago, I think it's easier to get in touch with people than other sites, especially because it's free (at the moment

)

I have chosen not to use websites like facebook and myspace

Im aware that many people dont worry about these things but im not one of them and ask myself when using websites like this some key questions that might be a little vague or confusing in the long winded user policy agreements:-

* What data is being collected about them
* Where this data is being held, and for how long
* What it's being used for
* Who else has access to the data

very often these websites are associated with thrid parties and although at first they generally start off innocent enough with increasig popularity they get bought out by much bigger companies who have created HUGE new markets in the callection of personal information.

but not to scare anyone this is very much a matter of personal choice

yes the 'being bought out' thing you mentioned has started with facebook already. Microsoft recently bought 1.6% of facebook for £120m about a week ago.

I think it's up to the individual how much information they add. Personally my name and email address is the only personal information I put on public sites but I have seen people's profiles which include everything including their phone number, full address, date of birth, workplace, etc. On any sites which claim to 'need' any of this information I am inclined to lie a bit!
