| | | male / female symbols I regularly write up reports and tables from my field survey work and was wondering if anyone has come across a text symbol for the male circle/arrow sign and the female circle/cross symbol that I could copy and paste into my work?
they don't seem to exist despite the numerous other symbols available.... |

| | | Re: male / female symbols Hi, some fonts, mostly unicode or opentype ones, do actually have these lurking in the alt/shift characters.
The easiest way is to load a symbol font and then just select that font to get the symbols.
This truetype one has male/female signs at "M" & "F" as well as some other useful ones: PC version Mac version
I've not tried the PC one, but the Mac version works fine on my laptop. |

I use 'word' to do my stuff. Is there a way to use symbols in Word?
Many thanks.

henrya | Also, if you go to the start menu, click on "run", then type in "charmap.exe" and click OK it will come up.

| | | Re: male / female symbols I don't know if this helps - I'm a member of a local group here in Reading, and sometimes have to write similar reports and articles.
If you're using Microsoft Word, then simply click on "Insert" on the toolbar, then click on "symbols". As I tend to use "Arial" typeface, I keep the font as this and then scroll to "Miscellaneous Dingbats" in the subset. You'll find the male and female symbols about three quarters of the way down.
I think they're also in other fonts as well, but can be accessed the same way.
