Re: Profound questions for a Sunday Afternoon

Yeah I wish, but I had far too much alcohol the night before. I can only do the partying thing every other night, I'm too old for drinking 24/7!

ah...you don't find the whole situation highly amusing like me then? i like the part where your friend has to ask you to remind them where it is they live

Re: Profound questions for a Sunday Afternoon

i was out today when i heard this massive jet go over head..when they hit the speed of sound you get the sonic boom....and that got me thinking. if we hit light speed (some time in the future) will there be a similar phenomenon. a kind of photon boom?

Einstein says you can't exceed the speed of light. He was a lot cleverer than me - I'll take his word for it!

hmmm.....but cleverer men have been wrong before. they used to think the world was flat! do you think if you did exceed light speed it'd create an uncontrollable tear in the fabric of reality and suck us all into oblivion? if so maybe we shouldn't actually try!

might fall through into a parallel universe and find all our lost socks and pens

probably shouldn't try to create artificial intelligence and install it in computers capable of seriously messing up the human way of life - but we'll probably try!!

you can't reach the speed of light because as you approach it meters start to get longer - strange but true.

in answer to your original question , have you never seen star trek if you could go to warp speed everything would go blurry - suspiciously like film being fast forwarded

Re: Profound questions for a Sunday Afternoon

holy thread recovery batman

thought of another one

can anything else be "monged" except for Iron, fish , and war ?
is it possible for things to be old fangled or indeed just fangled as well as new fangled ?
and what does monging and fangling actually entail ?

yes i do have too much time on my hands - I'm waiting for the photoshop to load on my new laptop.

clearly far to much time on your hands....however in a similar vein how come you only replenish something? you never say 'plenish me a drink'

i'll have to try that in the pub tonight - "i say barman plenish me a bottle of magners my good fellow"

speaking of that why are research fellows (like wot me sister is) still called fellows even though they are female - surely they should be research lasses ?

because its an archaic system. or, because they don't want to be discriminated against? must be something to do with it, afterall, girlies are actors now.

let us know what the barman does. if he looks at you blanky with an eyebrow raised you know he'll be thinking 'okaay, obviously this ones obviously escaped.'

Re: Profound questions for a Sunday Afternoon

I think originally fellowship didnt mean you had to be a bloke anyway - afterall the fellowship of the ring in LoTR included several girlies and one of them was a hobbit to boot.

going back to the plenishing thing - how about being replete , you never hear people say " you know after that meal i'm still plete - mmm more cake "

and btw i'm used to people looking at me like that

ah. well, technically galadriel and whatsername, elrond's daughter, aren't in the fellowship. fellowships the four hobbits, legolas, aragorn, borromir, gandalf and gimly (excuse the spelling). i haven't read the book for yonks, and i'd forgotten about girly hobbit. galadriel just sends them on their merry way with elf bread and gifties like a good queen, whilst she gets ready to pop off to the grey havens. you know its going to tick me off all day that i can't remember aragorns girlf.
