Re: Flooding

Going down now although more rain forecast.
It's not just humans who suffer from floods -

BBC - South Yorkshire - Weather - Floods in South Yorkshire

There's a lot of fish out of water ....

Re: Flooding

One good thing about it is that the M1 has been closed for a couple of days

No, the Severn now seems to be causing problems - but that's not too uncommon. It's a different type of flood - a slow overwhelming ooze compared to these sudden, fast floods in Yorkshire. Neither of them would you want around your house so, as you say, hope everyone is well.

These floods in South Yorkshire are really unprecedented - I remember being driven back from Scotland a few years back on a very rainy day and every river was flooding from the Tyne down to the Aire but back in Sheffield the old Don was just rushing along without approaching the top of its banks. There has been one hell of a lot of water to raise its level by two metres, or more ....

Frightening ....

Re: Flooding

You can see why people are concerned about the Ulley Reservoir collapsing - it's next to the M1 and a power station ...
BBC - South Yorkshire - Weather - Floods in South Yorkshire

I bet, when this is over, there will be proposals to destroy the reservoir as a safety hazard - ignoring its use for recreation and as a nature reserve. No chance of tunneling the M1 instead?
