Wisley Glasshouse.

Friends of mine went to see the new glasshouse at Wisley and were disturbed to see the pond at the front of it had no escape route for animals. They saw two frogs swimming round the perimeter with no way out. The same will apply to Hedgehogs and any other small mammals and amphibiand which could become trapped and die an exhausted drowning death.

Has anyone else seen this most basic of oversights?

What did the Wisley people say when your friends pointed this out ot them?

They're looking into it.

We went to Wisley this afternoon, and had a look at the new glasshouse pond.

Two ramps have been installed, which would surprise me if that were adequate for a pond this size.

One can be seen in the bottom left corner.



The other is by the entrance to the glasshouse and a frog was making use of it.



Unfortunately, it didn't help these three little guys.

My own opinion is that those 2 piddly little ramps are far from adequate. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack for any animals concerned.

They tell us that they have now inserted proper ramps at regular intervals to replace these two temporary ramps.

I'm surprised at the lack of interest shown here though.
