| | | Re: Longest Day Its been great here for about a month it doesn't really get completly dark at all if the sun is shining, you can take pictures at gone midnight of the colours in the sky.
We have our own stones at Callenish so if I can persuade someone and its sunny enough I might go there but it will prob. seeing the longest night from my Garden. Good luck out there with the dawn watching.

I dunno, it's funny the celebrations we have that we don't all fully understand, that came from the ancient pagan religions. Guess that's what make celebrations special: they retain their magic and mystique. |

| | | Re: Longest Day Went to Stonehenge last night. Twas well good, took along someone whose never been to somat like that before and they loved it. I've been 4 or 5 times before and was expecting it to be RainHenge this year but it all held off and it was amazing. On the way home I realised that Alldays was selling Glenmorange single malt at £16 reduced from £26 so I'm now sat in bed considering slamming out some acid techno for a while. My head is starting to feel funny. |

| | | Re: Longest Day Was that the double or the bottle? Safeways was doing (last week) good offers on Bells (a far better blend than most lowland malts ) and also Laphroiag - a far better ....
Anyway, very pleased to see that you cleared up - so many people visiting 'mystical' sites seem to think that leaving their rubbish and destroying the vegetation is a contribution to universal harmony .... Quote:

| | | Re: Longest Day It was for a 70cl bottle of the Single Highland one. It is moreish. Drank quarter of a bottle of it to take the edge off the hangover and general tiredness from last night. Why I felt the need to get bladdered last night I don't know; you can just buzz off all the people and the sounds bouncing off the stones and all that!
I'm not usually a whisky drinker but I've always equated Glenmorangie with being something special and so because it was discounted I thought I'd indulge. Incidently, I was at the smallest whisky distillery in Scotland the other week while on a residential trip up at Pitlochrie. Their whisky is nice but I preferred one I tried, possibly from one of the Hebrides, which tasted and smelt like peat, it was really dark and aromatic and just generally lovely. I can't remember the name of it though!
Also last night I found a Weasel or Stoat pelt, probably dropped by one of the pagans up there but it was about to get trampled into the ground by everyone so I picked it up and took it home to rest on my speakers. In fact, have a pic of it:
Apologies for the rest of the pic but I can't be bothered to take another one of it and upload it and all that. I am certainly anti-fur but I am also anti waste and the fur was so soft and in such good condition that would really have been a pity for it to have been destroyed. I think it's a Weasel or something. I would like to be corrected though if possible.
The best bit about last night though is meeting up with people who you hardly ever see. I think that was one of the original points of the solstice ceremonies, as a meeting time and place for people before clocks were invented. Also the vibe there is something else, as the sky is lighting up and the sun slowly rising and the drums and cheers getting louder and faster, it's proper good. It's such a pity when it's over though. I feel sad now I miss it all, even though it was less than 24 hours ago that I was up there!!! |

It's two sewn together. To decribe it sounds proper weird: it has 6 legs, 2 tails and one head, with where the head would have been on one of them sewn into the oooo of the other. |

As eeyore says, that's way too big to be a Weasel or Stoat.

| | | Re: Longest Day Looking at its head it appears to be about 3 inches wide so I'm agreeing that it isn't a Weasel or Stoat. Looking closer at it it might be a small Fox. It's weird though because the bones aren't in there, only the fur, and so the shape is weird. It is certainly Fox coloured, although I know that colour isn't the greatest ID feature. In fact, the more I stare at him the more I think it definatly is a Fox. |

The more i think about it the more i think its Fox , the feet look right too. I had a look at a fur traders website and the colour is bang on - i'll send it to you by pm because i'll be damned if i'm going to give them the free publicity of posting it here (as well as Fox among other things they feature polar bear ! )

| | | Re: Longest Day yeah i'm with you on that - fur is worn by beautiful animals.... and ugly people.
your case is different because you found and recycled it so no action on your part caused it to be killed , but you do have to wonder about the ethicsof the pagan who dropped it in the first place
