I dont play the guitar but I really wish I had learnt an instrument. You are never alone if you play the guitar. You could be the poorest person in the world yet given a guitar you could still be happy as Larry.
Theres not much you could say that about. |

Used to play in several bands (not at the same time!) some years back. Family and other commitments don't allow me to now ... but you never know!
All the very best,

1) Take it from me, when your freinds tell you that you have less musical talent than a dead and decomposing yak - they are not "just jealous of your ability and success with the chicks" they are telling you this for your own good
2) never under any circumstance agree to play a gig to an audience composed entirely of drunk rugby players - or if you do take a hard hat and a riout sheild with you

| | | Re: Just out of interest........... Yes, in fact I'm jamming down the studio tomorrow (well... today now) afternoon. Hopefully. It's only a Misfits tribute band though, and I'm not too great at bass (but then it is the Misfits, you don't have to be John Entwistle :P).
I'm much better (and happier!) playing guitar, and hope to one day form a band to play a mix of extreme metal (thrash, death, black etc, yes that loud antisocial stuff :P) with folk. Eclectic mixture it may seem, but it really does work. you can't get much better than Cruachan or Turisas. Even Iron Maiden have that beautiful Celtic lilt to their music.
I know a lot of people seem to think that Maiden are nothing but loud and obnoxious noise pollution, but I really urge folk to give them a chance. Forget The number of the Beast and Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter and track down songs like Blood Brothers (which can bring tears to the eyes!), the Clansman, Alexander the Great, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Journeyman ( a heartfelt ballad through and through) and the fantastic For the Greater Good of God.
So yeah, I play al ittle bass guitar Steve Harris is God \m/ |

Never really got into the Nu-Metal thing much. Turisas are fantastic, very operatic and grandios, while still having that Viking savagery, staotin' stuff! And with regards to DM, maybe you just ain't heard the right stuff.
'course, I'm all into this metal etc, but then I'm a heruuuuge fan of Runrig. And lots of other stuff like Eurythmics and Little Feat, so pretty varied mix. Quote:

Oi!" stuff or are we talking the other kind?

To get started perhaps you could play...
Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds
Oh for the Wings of a Dove Fly me to the Moon
Talk to the Animals Bat Out of Hell
Then finish with a medley of Bee(a)tles songs! |
