When I was young I used to regularly see white dog do.
You never see it now. Someone told me that its because dogs diets have changed? But I was wondering if perhaps it was not dogs, but some other wild animal? |

It used to be the norm to give bones to dogs. Hence the white dog do. Now of course since BSE bones are no longer given to dogs so... Also as many people buy their meat in Supermarkets bones are not available there.

Ah I see.
Quite logical I guess, but I wondered if my memory was playing tricks on me. A friend told me that it is because people used to feed their dogs porridge but I felt I was on the receiving end of a wind up.

Yes, I agree, it is due to the lack of calcium produced by eating bones. They are still available from pet shops (roasted or treated in some way) and I occasionally buy them for my dog. However as most people now feed dry dog biscuits there isn't the same need to provide bones, as they were used to clean the dog's teeth as well as given them something to occupy them. |

I asked this question once and was told that white dog 'do' is simply old dog do that has dried out in the sun etc. Since we see far less dog do around these days, particularly on pavements, I was told this is why we never see the white version anymore. Any truth in this?!

It was white because of the bones ,you should not see either colour now unless you are the dog owner

Bones get stuck in the intestines of dogs  vets have advised against giving bones to dogs. Small bones can rupture the intestines and kill the dog. |

raw bones are ok as are slowly cooked bones, but bones cooked quickly at home especially bird bones can be dangerous

Hold on minute though, don't poodles do white dog poo?
I seem to remember when I was younger my friend had a toy poodle and it's poo was white. Maybe her dog ate too many bones though. Hmmmmm.

Strange but the bob I remember was from a poodle in Scotland. I am sure it was my grans. Not sure she ever fed it porridge, but she did keep porridge in a drawer in the kitchen, to cut up into small slices, of that I am positive. So maybe they were dog biscuits and hence the 'bob blanc'. | | | |
