It must say something about the papers I read, or which parts of them, but I still haven't seen this logo! No problem, I enjoy reading about it never does to cloud your mind with facts ....
Nice bit from 'The Northener':
We in London have been getting in a right lather about the new
Olympics logo these last few days, unveiled on Monday to a mixture of
horror, outrage and outright sniggering at its apparent resemblance
to Lisa Simpson blowing something other than a saxophone (and no, I
can't really see that one either). So I hope it doesn't seem overly
metrocentric to report that the controversy has reached West
Yorkshire - where, in fact, it's sparked an imaginative solution.
Commendably taking the view that commissioning another set of brand
consultants would simply throw good money after bad, editors at the
Halifax Evening Courier did something far better: used a team of kids
instead.
Children at the city's Savile Park Primary were asked to critique the
design, explains class teacher David Dyson. "The children came up
with lots of ideas of what the logo showed, including a man lighting
the Olympic torch and even a peacock," he told the Courier, "but it
took them a long time to realise it was the date 2012."
Only one solution, then: give the kids some paper and coloured pens
(mercifully no Photoshop in sight) and get them to do better. You can
see the results - which range from designs including torches,
coloured balls and flames - in the paper's online gallery (
http://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/loca...icleid=2930803 ).
Personally, I found it hard to resist the version done by Dalmeet
Chawla, 9, whose bravura solution manages to squeeze in a set of
Olympic rings, two implementations of the date, the name of the host
city and, for reasons I can't fathom but rather admire, a man with
the letter "N" inscribed on his nose.
In any case, Mr Dyson is confident that together they've cracked the
problem; he's considering whether to send the finished logos to the
organisers in the hope that one of them could replace the existing
version.
