| | | what a a wonderful gallery! I have just been looking at the last 14 days of photos in the gallery the standered is amazingly high, in fact superb,I know the reasons against but I still feel that there should be an option to view the gallery as a slide show, for them as can
There are so many excellent pics.they really deserve to be seen in this way

The comments are becoming more frequent and not just about the subject of photography which is want I want to see. Comments are important since they generate discussion which is what this site is all about.
Thanks!

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! I agree with all that's been said about the gallery. There are some fantastic photos in there covering every aspect. I realise everyone hasn't the time to view as often as I do, but please when you do look, take the time to comment or rate the photos. This encourages newcomers like myself to comment and post themselves, and as digi says this encourages further discussion. |

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! Never a truer thread posted Nightshade.
This year I am going to try to get into macro a bit more and aspire to the likes of the work of Digi, Fourwings and PXL8 et al. But tell me guys, will the extension tubes I bought do the job or do I need to invest in a lens, and if so how much?
Also, just how much patience do you guys have and do you do most work with tripods?
Cheers

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! Ollie what can you say the standard is professional, most have the maximum star rating, generally the photographers amongst us have already used up the superlatives and commented I personaly feel daft saying "and me,thats what I thinkas well"
Perhaps as I only have time to look in the gallery infrequently there is another way to show appreciation, it takes time to study each image, they are all excellent and all the contributors have my greatest admiration, those that do not have the latest equipment especially.
I need to be able to view the gallery via a slide show, this would give the speed and exposure to the ones I may otherwise miss
I know the arguments against, that some people are on dial up still but there are software progs. to speed them up,I have broadband (as probably do the majority) and count myself fortunate, but I would like to use its potential

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! Nightshade, I completely agree about what words to use when commenting on the photographs. It is difficult to express oneself sometimes without it looking daft when it's read, and I also think a slideshow would be a great idea. I don't know the percentage of people that are still on dial up but would think it's pretty low, but at the same time I would not wish them to think that the site does not cater for them as well if you see what I mean. |

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! I do understand as I said, but could it, would it be an incentive for others to post their images if they were easy to show
I am sure that in areas where there is no broadband people would understand and those that choose to use dial up. It would be an Option to use a slide show and a good addition to the site.

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! I think if there is an option to view a slideshow, that would be sufficient. I'm on dial up (no broadband here and bt say that it is very unlikely we will get it!), and the size of the photos in the gallery is fine for me to view at the moment, although they can be slow. I think any problems will start if a slideshow is the only way to view them.
Agree with the comments of the photographs. I must admit I don't comment but I would only be able to say amazing photo over and over lol.

The important point is to make a comment. I appreciate every single comment on my pictures, no matter how many times I've seen it before. |

For those of us who have yet to start posting photographs, for whatever reason, I feel the comments made on each photo in the gallery are important.
Speaking personally, as a somewhat shy and complete novice in photography, the feedback is encouraging me to take a few pics, share them on the site, and look for some guidance on how to improve.

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! Most of the images here are excellent not just because of the quality but because of the diversity in the images. There are categories that cover most peoples interests and most of them are nice and active. Personally I appreciate any comment I get on my work, I also appreciate constructive comments on where the images are wrong as it's one of the ways I can improve my work. So, please, never be afraid to say you don't like an image, just say why you don't as well .
Boddie: a short prime lens like a 50 or 85mm with extension tubes is idea for close up static work. Personally I use a sigma 150mm macro lens, ocasionally with tubes, as I like the greater standoff distance it gives. Using extension tubes on zoom lens also works but it is a bit more awkward as the minimum focus distance will change if you alter the zoom. A lens support will always improve your images whether it is a tripod, monopod or bean bag but they do slow you down and some of the small insect and dragonflies are a bit quick! |

| | | Re: what a a wonderful gallery! Remember you don't need to be an Andy Rouse to post in the gallery or have the best kit in the world, the most important thing is that we see your images.
Its a wildlife site not a photographic site so quality is not the issue, don't think your images are not up to it. There all lots of subjects that have not yet been added to the gallery.
