I have never seen Alien but i can just imagine it being like that.

Thank you for that link, the video was mesmerising, fantastic stuff. It's hard to get your head around the detail, how on earth do they know when 17 years have passed?? This is one I will definitely keep coming back to.

I was lucky to be over in the US in Indianapolis 2-3 years ago, this coincided with the cicadas hatching.
The thing I remember was the noise! they're calls are loud and incessant (well there are thousands of them!), and they fly badly as well, you'd just hear a loud 'clack' as another cicadas flew into a window or doorscreen.
It also seemed that everything loved to eat them - as you saw in the video - a happy squirrel chomping down

I have a couple of moultings that I'll have to dig out and take photos of.

It was a sight to be sure.
