I've always been interested in how people come up with their user names on here. Mine's pretty obvious  , although I'm not always grumpy!

I am an Oceanographer and my family call me Roc. I don't know why but like to think its because I am hard!
When I met my husband 5 years ago on the internet my user name was Oceanroc and since I met such a diamond I have a fondness for the name. So that is my story.

You can blame Nettle Runner (my dad) for mine.
He used to say "Jennywrenny pickle penny" when I was young. I don't know where he got that from - he probably made it up 
On a well known auction site I am jennywrennypicklepenny!

My husband refered to me as "Mama Goose" to our girls for years then it became just Goosey. Its probably a 50/50 split now if he calls me goosey or Shirley  . |

Mine came from one of those silly dinner party games you play where you have to make up a new name based on something like your favourite sweet from when you were a child and the first word of the first street you lived in. My new name on that basis came out as Smartie Benton and it stuck!
I never much liked being called Carol anyway. |

Mine was thought up by my son Matt (fourwingsJNR) about three years ago, I wanted a name under which I could market my images, and as most of the things that I photograph have four wings I suppose it was fairly logical.
Pity he couldn't have used his imagination more when he was thinking up his own username, it makes me sound like an old codger having a JNR |

at school i was always a little odd, but once i got to college i got this reputation for being not quite right. sadly oddball was taken on another site so i became almostnormal instead. also it does describe me quite well

Well, therein lies a very interes….. boring story
Just after Christmas a certain person told me about an amazing website they had just joined and that it was soooo good I should join to.
Of course I said 'yes ' and duly forgot all about it…..but this certain person kept on and on at me asking if I had joined yet…and being quite rubbish… I still hadn’t… so I thought to save all the aggro that was coming my way, I should just think of a name and join .
So then this certain person said to me "don’t tell me your username let me guess and see if I can spot you. "
Well, then the hard bit began trying to think of a name that was ok , hadn’t been taken and that she would recognise.
As my favourite tv programme was 'Monk' (anyone watched it?..it‘s really good you should try it if you haven‘t) I thought I’d use that.
But I thought Monk was a bit to masculine , so I changed it to the more feminine Monkster !
Anyway , it worked, I was recognised , but now I'm stuck with it!!
So my advice is - think very carefully before you choose your name....you have it FOREVER!! 
Obviously now I'm here I’m so glad I joined, it is the best decision I've made for ages....I've learnt so much and met a lovely bunch of people on the way!! 
Sorry this is so long winded!!.....I must admit though I'm very impressed that everyone else could do their explanations in a couple of sentences....or less!!
Now then, anyone got a wipe????
