| | | Slapton Ley NNR rapidly becoming my favourite place 3 days at Slapton-Ley NNR staying on the splendid Camping Club site(no riff-raff )
Despite the weather it was a good long weekend (well they did cancel the 10 Tors)
The beach is absolutely superb and a first place to look on arrival, this time there were
Terns doing spectacular plunges after fish,Cormorants and even a pair of Great Crested Grebes fishing the breaking surf, plenty of seashells and seaweeds
The open water of the ley was very choppy and only a few gulls in evidence but the reed beds were full of Goldfinches and lots of birds that I could only get a glimpse of
The walk around the ley on the nature trail revealed Lizards and Slow Worms basking in the
sunny hollows and by the travellers seats,a Robin landed on a twig less than a foot away
and seemed entranced by the Lioness(it kept craning its neck in an apparent attempt to get closer so is out of focus in both the shots I took)
There are Otter around the ley but thanks to the dogwalkers who ignored the requests
to keep their dogs on a short lead, none were showing although we did see a spraint
There are Bats, Pipistrelles 45's and 55's along with Daubentons and I was told Lesser
HorseShoes
There have always been Adders around the ley and reps. and amphibs. abound
in the twighlight owls call,in the sunken lanes are butterflies and moths
that is the National Nature Reserve Slapton Ley (oh and two pubs in easy walking distance
of the camp site )
