| | | Explosion or Cloud?? I was out for a walk late this afternoon when my son drew my attention to something on the horizon.
He was convinced that something had exploded, infact it actually was a massive cloud of steam rising high into the clear cold air, this was from Radcliffe-on-Soar power station, over 30 miles away on the Nottinghamshire border.
An image is attached, quite a sight when you consider the distance involved. |

| | | Re: Explosion or Cloud?? Hello Fourwings, I saw this today as well. I first saw it at Whisby, which is just 5 miles outside Lincoln! Never ceases to amaze me how far away it is, yet looks just a couple of miles away! |

I must admit I'd never really seen it this clearly before, must have been the aptmospheric conditions. |

| | | Re: Explosion or Cloud?? I have seen this effect quite a few times on my travels around Britain. I think the best one I saw was at the Drax Power Station which is not far from the M18 / M62 junction. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to capture the moment.
Cracking photo of the Radcliff one though. Brings back memories of my Angling days when I used to fish on the Soar.

I can't help but wonder just how high the top of the steam cloud was! |

| | | Re: Explosion or Cloud?? Thanks Sammy - I must admit I'm quite tempted to go out that way the next time the weather conditions are right, I'd really like to see and photograph it from a much closer range.
I think 30+ miles is what you call a long range shot |
