Been to Eagle Heights and seen this vulture. It's BIG!

And there is John away in Lesvos and this is the BIGGEST tick he will ever get for his list .... albeit an escape!

I remember one escaping in Essex last year (I think) and he was a b***** to re-capture.

Watch out for large shadows overhead .

On holiday in France with my son, many years ago.. sitting outside the tent enjoying the sunshine when Daniel came running over to me to say that a big bird had landed on the campsite. I glanced up from my book and saw a white head and wings.. I said (blithly) "oh it is probably a goose". Daniel said "I dont think so mummy". It was a ruddy great Griffon Vulture which had escaped from the nearby Roches des Aigles!!! It only has a 6ft plus wing span and beak and claws to match!!!!. He has never let me forget it of course.

Last time I went was about eight or nine years ago. They brought out a griffon vulture which rose to a very great height and then headed off into the distance. Apparently this was not an unusual occurrence and at least once a week there would be two or three landrovers out scouring Kent for him. The handler told us that he had once boarded a bus and they got a frantic phone call from the depot to come and collect him.
