how can anyone be stupid enough to bid £200 for a sainsbury's bag that only cost £5? that's ridiculous! and also, not very green or smart on sainsbury's behalf to only have that few available. if you're trying to promote greener shopping surely the more bags the better, my weekly shop wouldn't fit in just one bag!

asda have a square hemp bag that cost's £1.99 and you can buy as many as you want of them, they hold loads and are fairtrade. much more appropriate, as there seems to be a better stock available!

I saw it on the news yesterday, My first reaction was "what a good idea" i would pay £5 for one,if it meant not using carrier bags.. But then ... Only 30 were going to be available in each store!!
What is the point?
It is all an advertising scam to try and make Sainsbury's look as if they are doing something to help the Enviroment.. And they aren't... Only 20,000 have been made... It will have no impact what so ever......

Its A total CON and i wouldn't have one if they paid me.......

yes, i heard this as well. this surely defeats the object of the exercise? why would you need a carrier bag for what is, in essence, a carrier bag!

i went in sainsburys to get some raspberries (not very green i know, but they taste so good) and i had to forcibly restrain the women from giving me a carrier bag. i ask you. carrier bag for a piddly punnet of raspberries!

The thing is that the bag was designed by a 'Designer'. Someone with a name that people pay for. She had people queueing down the street outside her shop when she made the first batch. Striking the deal with Sainsbury's was a way of building her profile, but so few were made in order to ensure that her brand retains that exclusiveness that all 'good' labels require. Upshot is that gullible fools rush to pay over the odds for shoddy commonplace goods, turning a purportedly environmentally driven product into yet more consumerist excess.

Make fake ones using the same lettering style, but instead of "I`m not a plastic bag", put "I`m a silly old bag"

What's wrong with a good old fashioned shopping basket, such as the French use all the time? You generally don't get plastic bags for nothing in their supermarkets.

old fashioned baskets are a good idea, but i don't know where to get one anymore, so i just stick with my many carriers and bags for life that i've been recycling as packing and stuff for ages. france is much less supermarkety than we are, i remeber there were small supermarkets, but it was all the little shops that i liked!

I re-use carrier bags and bags for life and get 'green points' for them from Tesco (I know it's just another gimmick ) and was told that their large bags for life are worth 3 points

Why don't the supermarkets cut the packaging on foods then everything we buy would fit into smaller bags.

I got 15 bags for life from sainsburys on friday !!! Its just a gimmick to be quite honest they dont appear to be as thick as they were.. I wouldnt pay £5 for a bag from a supermarket its just a waste of money..I do agree they should cut the packaging down..As the amount of bags we are given is a massive waste..

I think what Modbury has done in outlawing plastic bags is great and certainly a step in the right direction. A small town in Canada, i cant quite remember the name, has banned plastic bags recently too, so hopefully this will be a catching trend.
