| | | Re: Natural World heads-up- Giant Japanese Hornets I too shall watch, although I have to say I'm not a big fan of wasps and hornets. I find them quite intimidating, I'm willing to leave them alone and live in peace but they seem unwilling to do the same for me . The thing is, like any insects they are amazing little things, so the programme should be a good one. |

| | | Re: Natural World heads-up- Giant Japanese Hornets I thought that was really good, some great photography. For some reason I find the sociable 'hive' insects particularly interesting.
I do wish they would tone down the overly dramatic narration on many of these documentaries and just let the pictures tell the story. Attenborough will be a great loss at some point. |

| | | Re: Natural World heads-up- Giant Japanese Hornets I enjoyed last nights Natural World, I like how the japanese bees have evolved to sort the killer hornets out unlike the euro bees, and how the adult hornets don't eat meat but those grubs sure did |

| | | Re: Natural World heads-up- Giant Japanese Hornets I enjoyed and was fascinated by this programme.you (or maybe its just me) don't realise how clever these insects are.. the way the japanese bees wait and drew the Hornet into their Hive and attacked one of their own before they attacked it.. some great filming... but i do agree we didn't need the silly narrations with it...
Also did anyone watch the Badgers in new forest prog right after it..it was lovely a great way to fill a 10 minute gap between programmes

| | Re: Natural World heads-up- Giant Japanese Hornets Hello newcomer here,
With reference to Giant Japanese Hornets, I have had the "pleasure" of coming face to face with these somewhat large insects! My son imported a Toyota MR2 Turbo from Japan and unbeknown to us a queen had hibernated somewhere inside the car. One day my son noticed a round nest hanging from the ceiling in his garage and on close inspection we found it contained several hornets. We were somewhat speechless when we saw the size of them and not sure exactly what they were. We got a pest controller in to remove the nest back in June but only the other week we saw several more flying around in our front garden. They are beautiful looking insects but totally deadly. Their sting is so venomous that they can kill a human and so, much to my dismay, I have had to call the pest controller out again. The problem is that in no time at all the nest can contain 200 hornets, imagine that in your garage. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
