Talking rat infestation

They say that you are never more than 10 metres from a rat in the UK, well this is especially true of me

having finished exploring my desk noggin (the all white one) has just gone to sleep in an empty lens pouch whilst stig is currently in my arm pit

Re: rat infestation

What sort of rat is Noggin? He/she looks "siamese" if you can get that type of rat?

according to my sister noggin is a "himalayan" while stig is an "agouti hoodie"

anyone with a big interest in (pet) rats could do worse than check out Fancy Rats | Home

Re: rat infestation

these are boys by the way - female rats tend to be smaller and much more scuttlely where as the male of the species tends to be bigger (esp when castrated) and much more inclined to just sit on you and go to sleep

stig takes serious exception to that comparison and would likely squidege you with his vast ratty bulk if he could be bothered to move - which he cant

Re: rat infestation

a couple of new recruits joined us today

firstly this is wilma, who is a two year old female rescue rat which we have taken in, as our boys are castrated we hope they can all live together- tho currently they are in "what the oooo is that" mode

and secondly this one has moved into our compost heap - doubtless encouraged by all the rat bedding therein - fortunately its a male which are generally solitary so we propose to leave him be - if it was a female intending to start a colony we would have to evict her me thinks

(not the best photo as it was taken hand held with a 500mm lens in fairly low light through double glazing)

Re: rat infestation

How can you tell it's a male from that distance? Or have you had a closer look? Not being facetious - I'd really like to know as I see quite a few passing through here and can't tell which is which.

Re: rat infestation

basically on size and behavior - plus when it climbed on to the bird table we could see its enourmously large testes which was a bit of a give away

Re: rat infestation

I used to have a pet rat....(Ziggy Stardust) he was a japanese hooded.

They make excellent pets and are very intelligent. It made me laugh to see your collection sleeping together, one on top of the other.

They all look very happy and well fed. I hope they give you as much joy as Ziggy gave me.
