Number of posts

Hi to all,
Since joining I've posted 8 images and 6 comments but in the number of posts box it's only showing 1 post , why is this ???

Hope someone can help with my question

Hi Andy, only forum posts count to your total. images and comments on gallery images don't count to your post total.

Hi Ollie,

There was a period last year when my total didn't change for months. It remained at 642 for ages and only recently it changes but not consistently. eg In July last year my total posts were about 642 but now they are still only 681. rather strange, eh.

I also thought that gallery posts counted. I'm sure this was mentioned in another forum.

Gallery posts do not count. They used to but some saw it as a away to boost their post count so it was abolished

just to clarify before anyone jumps on this the problem was people boosting their post count artificially by posting loads of one or two word comments like "nice" or "good one" over and over again with very little regard for the actual quality of the picture which wasnt adding anything to the gallery.

its is clear that post count bumping was the reason behind this because when stu stopped gallery comments from counting towards the post count the cut and paste one word comments stopped pretty much imediately

as with a variety of other changes we have seen it is sadly the case that an inconsiderate minority have caused changes which impact on us all

Apart from getting past the 25 post threshold, why do people want to boost their post number? Is there a prize I didn't know about?

We've gone over this before. No there is not a prize but some perceive a kudos with post counts and, as Pete says, it got quite out of hand at one time
