I do run IE7 but I also get exactly the same problem with Firefox so it cannot be the browser. Thought I had cracked it today - Let it bomb out (after about 5 minutes) and then pressed 'try again' managed to upload two images like this BUT then it was 'back to the drawing board' tried another ten times with no luck.

I am now experiencing more lag between forums and a lack of green colour
on the pages which are taking longer and longer to load
I do not experience this on any other site

I tried again today to load onto the gallery.. without success
I know the size etc is right. but it takes ages to load only to find out there is some sort of error again....
Has anyone thrown any light on why this is happening to everyone.... We cant all be doing it wrong! can we!!!!!!!

I've had a look around the site and can't find any obvious problems. If you can send me one of your images via email to email@wild.... then I'll try uploading it to your account from this end to see if there's anything stopping it getting through.

Cheers Stu.. pete (eeyore has up;oaded them for me now.. he did'nt have any problem doing them
I keep getting this message "The file that you have tried to attach is too big. The maximum size is 520000 bytes" But pete says they are the right size.. begining to think I must be doing something wrong!!

That's bizarre

If you're using Windows, could you try loading one of the installed images from C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Documents\My Pictures\Sample Pictures - like the blue hills pic, which is about 800x600 and only 30kb

I just had a thought kym , it is possible that when you email the files to me your email programme or mine is automatically compressing them which is reducing their file size to below the upload limit - if this is the case it is possible that the original images sitting on your computer are in fact above the upload limit

try using right clicking your mouse button on one of the files, then selecting properties (at the bottom of the menu) - this will tell you how big they are in kbs, if this number is higher than 500 they are too big

I managed to upload an image today by quitting the upload (after 2 or 3 mins of 'Waiting for www.wildaboutbritain' ) and hitting the submit button again BUT it took forty times and over two hours before it finaly loaded. The files size was 114 kb. The fact that it did upload means that there was nothing wrong with the file - how strange.

I would imagine that we are looking at more than one issue here - the problems ROYC describes are different to those kym is suffering

Roy, are you on BTInternet by any chance? I couldn't upload anywhere yesterday without going through the same kind of routine you describe. For some reason, uploading was throttled to next to nothing and I was stalling after a few kb. Affected me on three or four different sites, plus my webspace. Similar problems have been reported on BT newsgroups for the past couple of weeks.

Things seem better - but not perfect - tonight.

No I am not on BTInternet ( with Freedom 2 Surf) I uploaded to several other sites with no problem and also updated my website. I have had the same problem with WAB for the last two weeks and it is the only site I have a problem with.

Ahaaaaaaaaaaa.. think you have maybe solved the mystery! I clicked on an Original of one of the last ones i sent you andddddd...... Its 539 KB (552 194 bytes) So it is to big!!
So next question how do i alter this????? By e/mailing them to myself????

If you save your original file as a medium(ish) quality jpeg and around 800 pixels on the longest side you should end up with a file of around 100 - 150 KB.

Do you have an image editor like photoshop elements or paintshop pro ? if you do you use it to go to image - image size then set the dimensions to 600x800 (or as near as possible if the pic isnt a standard shape ) at 72dpi then save the file with a different name at quality setting 7

if you dont have a image editor i would suggest you either buy Photoshop ele 5 for arround 40-60 notes or download one of the free ones such as GIMP from gnu soft
