Who Turned the Lights Out?

Our sincerest apologies to everyone that visited the site yesterday and today only to find a blank white screen.

Our web hosts failed us massively after their system crashed then they blundered their way through getting us back up and running again like a scene from Laurel and Hardy.

It couldn't have come at a worse time and we're now in the process of checking that everything is where it should be and nothing has been lost etc.

Luckily we've got it virtually all backed up anyway, but sorry for the inconvenience.

Stu

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Oops! I gathered it must have been a server problem, as there was no advance notice.

Good to be back though!

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Am I the only one still having problems with access to this site?

Sometimes I get into WAB ok but for the most part I either get a white screen (and waiting for WAB shows at the bottom of the page) or I open up in WAB but when I try to go elsewhere (Gallery for example) it just hangs and goes nowhere. Is anyone else experiencing these problems.

The latest one is it hangs for a while then comes up with a message saying that the Document contains no data.

I am still getting e-mail notifications of threads I have subscribed to so obviously the web site seems to be working ok.

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Hi John,

It's not something that we're getting at this end. I'll have a look at it this morning and see if there's anything obvious that could be causing the problem.

I'm getting the same problem too. When I click on the email link it takes ages to come up, I usually give up and go straight onto the site.

I had the same problem yesterday, but it all appears to be ok today.

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

StuDH I am still getting probs with the site which I reported months ago it
takes ages to go from one forum to another and when I go to reply to a thread ,or minimise a screen I am asked to sign in again despite having signed in and ticked the box, this also happens occasionaly when I visit the gallery
to look up pics. hence my requests for the forum jump facility and the slide show!

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

I see what you mean - we've now had a few pages slow down massively this morning, some taking over a minute to appear. We've had a look at our system stats and it's showing the occasional spike of excessive load on the server but there's no apparent reason for it.

I've contacted the techs, but they can't seem to find the fault at the moment. Hopefully, they'll have something sorted out soon.

I take that back!

I've just done a reply to a thread and it took over a minute to load. Normally it's instant.

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

How are we doing for speed now? The techs have been on it today and seem to have done a great job as we're now back to firing on all cylinders.

Nearly every page is popping up almost instantly (with broadband) but let us know if there's any problems.

Cheers

Stu

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Up until now I had no problems in the Forums but this time it took over a minute to get into this thread.

Earlier (about an hour ago) in the Gallery it took nearly three minutes to get in and open one photo I wanted to look at.

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Alerted Stuart that I couldn't get in at 7am today but since I have been at work there hasn't been a problem getting in or working my way around the site.

As an aside. Isn't it time that the Christmas card link at the top of the page was removed. lol

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

I still get asked to sign back in if I minimise or visit the gallery but speed is better than it has been for ages

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

John - Good to hear that it's working OK on your work PC. We're working on the frontpage and site designs today so the Christmas card banner should be coming down later...then again, it's only another 349 days to go - anyone fancy a turkey sandwich and a mince pie?

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

The site seems fast enough for me - but I'm getting the occasional blank white page when using the "New Posts" button.

Re: Who Turned the Lights Out?

Hi Stu

The site is working ok with ive only once had probs when the front page can up as a frame with little bits here and there.

I'm very impressed with the whole site, you must have quite a team working behind the scene.

Congrats

paul
