Why are my images not being uploaded

I managed to upload one image over a week ago, but since then nothing: I have followed the upload procedure and it tells me that my image has been uploaded successfully and will appear once a moderator has looked at it. I am about ready to call it a day.

Hi Terry, sorry to hear you are having problems getting your images into the gallery. If you give us some idea of what the images were and what gallery they were meant to go in eg, Birds, Butterflies etc. I will try and find out why they haven't appeared.

Hi Ollie, there were two images for the fungi gallery, a yellow stags horn fungus and an Amethyst Deceiver. One for the insect gallery a banded demoiselle and one for the mammal gallery a Fox. I think that was all, many thanks Terry.

the other thing to add Terry is that you should have a read of the Gallery guidelines if you haven't already. If the images didn't meet the Gallery requirements (e.g. image size) that might explain their failure to appear.

It is possible though that, for some reason, the images failed to upload properly.

hi Matt, I have read the guidelines, that was one of the first things I did before posting, the images all conformed to the guidelines so it looks like there is some other problem. I will attempt to load another image now, into the fungi gallery.

as far as i can tell terry you only have one image loaded up - the others might still be awaiting moderation as the editors can get pretty busy , another possibility is that your firewall settings could be interfering with the upload , i had this when i first started on wab.

try uploading one into the forum images gallery - this is an unmoderated area so it should go straight in if everything is working right.

Have tried uploading to the forum images gallery and I get the following message; No Image specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator.
It is a valid link as it is from the same directory that I posted my Fly Agaric image from.

Thanks to all for your help, looks like you will have to wait to see any more of my images.

Maybe the size of your pics are too big. They've got to be under 500k.

You usually get this message when you click on a broken link, i.e. an image that has been deleted for instance. The link it mentions is an internal WAB link, not your directory on your computer.
Let's try again. firstly, make sure your image is at least 800x600, and less than 500kb. Make sure it's also no more than 1280x1024.
Go to the upload page and select your image from your computer. Make sure you select either the Forum or the Unidentified galleries, and also make sure you put something in the image title.
The image should then upload immediately.

you also get that error message if you havent specified a file to upload - in essence the wab server is telling you that the link to upload the pic isnt there - Are you typing in the location in the file name ? if so try browsing for it instead (or vice versa if you are browsing for it)

Graham you have missed a zero off it should read

Please read this Terry otherwise it will not work.

Terry I have looked through the gallery and can only find the one by you Fly Agaric - Amanita muscaria (which incidently is superb). There is nothing in the moderation queue so can only think that the others never arrived on the site.

I have checked, double checked and checked again that everything meets the upload criteria. I am doing nothing different to my first upload which was successful.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Have you tried uploading one into the forum gallery? The only other thing I can suggest is that there is a box which has become either ticked or unticked and is stopping your images from uploading. If that is the case we will have to wait until Stu gets back from his break.

My latest images has not been uploaded either, they appear to go OK and I get all the right messages.
I have also twice left messages on the 'Contact' fuction but get no replies, I wonder if they are being miss-routed somewhere.

it is worth pointing out that the gallery editors do not accept all images. If an image is too small, has a border, is not in focus, is too grainy etc etc then it may be rejected. I'm not saying this was necessarily the case with yours jmayfield, but it could be an explanation for someone's images not appearing. Unfortunately, the gallery editors are all volunteers and we simply do not have the time to contact each individual to say whether their mages have or haven't been accepted. Sorry

At the risk of being regarded as a grumpy old man, I would make a few points.
Us newcomers do not know the policies of the site and I find it a bit confusing, put it down to my age if you llike (67).
When I attempt to load an image I first am informed I have unlimited space. (This is of course impossible, no computer has infinite capacity). I am then informed that the photo will appear in 24 hours, there is no suggestion that it might not. As my two latest pictures did not appear; they were neither out of focus or having a boarder, I sent a message requesting advice as to the sites policy regarding insertion; having been invited to contact the site by this means when I joined; I was informed that ithe message had been passed to the Webmaster for attention. As on the previous attempt to 'Contact us' I have not had a reply.
So I still do not know why the photos did not appear, maybe the number is limited for a given subject, how am I to know if us new members are not provided with the information?

We are all doing our best John, as is StuartDH the main site administrator. We are all volunteers and are having to cope with the very, very rapid growth of the site. All I can suggest is that you try uploading them again now and if they appear in the moderation queue I will look at them myself this morning.

YES I have followed the guidelines for the site and YES my images meet the necessary criteria and the indications are that it has been uploaded and waiting for moderation.

I upload to several other image galleries without problem and for the short period of time that the new software was in place on this site I managed to upload an image successfully, although it has since been removed not sure who removed it or why?

Stuart was looking into it for me but I have heard nothing for several days.

I fully understand that the site is maintained by volunteers, but if the site is to grow with any success these issues need to be addressed both quickly and proficiently.

When Stu decided to scrap the new gallery software the gallery was rolled back to the old gallery at the point at which the transfer took place. All images that were uploaded in the day or so that the new gallery was operational were lost.

Well, with 4500+ members, a vibrant forum and an extensive gallery some would say the site has already grown with some success

. Terry, the number of individuals who cannot upload to the gallery seems to be tiny, and in many cases images are actually being rejected rather than not actually reaching us. I acknowledge this is not the case for you. Hopefully Stu will look into it when he next has a chance. Since we receive uploads by the dozen every day, from hundreds of different members, you have us all confused as to why yours never reach us

Just shows that you have to be very carefully reading the guide. I thought that 800x600 was the maximum size allowed ..... now know why my St Mark's flies pic did not get onto the galley ..... this was slightly under 800x600.

There's currently room for about 2.1 million images, so I think we could be forgiven for 'unlimited' space.

24 hours if all is OK, but 48+ if they need to be ID'ed or something else is wrong with them.

I'll take a look into this,but as far as I know we haven't had emails come through, but it's probably best to post queries on here instead, so you can see they've been posted.

We've also got some info in the forum FAQs that could explain what's going wrong. If not, we'll try and sort it and post some info in the FAQs page.
