| | | Can photo be re-labelled? Having uploaded a photo, I have since discovered my identification was incorrect and I now have the correct full ID.
Is it possible to re-label it? If not, how can I delete the photo, and upload it again with the correct information?

| | | Re: Can photo be re-labelled? as long as your photo is in one of the regular galleries (and not the Unidentified, Forum or Photo Critique galleries) then you can amend the title yourself. Simply click on the 'image tools' button which is above and to the right of your photo. You can then click on 'edit image' and can change the title etc.

| | | Re: Can photo be re-labelled? that's strange. As a Gallery Editor I now see different things to you when I click on 'image tools' but I always used to be able to edit my own images. Can anyone else shed any light on this?

Matt | Hi Matt
strange things me thinks where's the pic? I'll have a look. I think we stopped people editing their own images to ensure we had consistency in naming.

Hi John - Gallery Editor. Nicrophorus investigator.
I've wrongly identified this as a red and black froghopper. Please use the info below to update my photo. Many thanks for your time on this!
Coppery Clover :-)
My description: it's about 1 inch long. It had aphids around its head and thorax, which it appeared to be eating.
The sources below gave me the correct ID:
1) Curator of Natural Sciences at Ludlow Museum Resource Centre
2) Earth Sciences and Geography, Keele University
They are commonly called Sexton Beetles or Burying beetles, and there are several species that occur in the UK. They get their name from the fact that they are scavengers and carnivorous and they actually bury small dead animals like mice etc., on which they lay their eggs so that the larvae have a source of food. From the information we have, the species most like the photo is Nicrophorus investigator.
Both sources concluded that it's difficult to be sure since there are a number of similar-looking species in the genus. |

Matt | I don't think there's much doubt: orange antennal tips, elytra not hairy, red markings not interrupted ....
However, I've ommented on an entry in the gallery - - which is, I think, N. vespillo not N. vespilloides |

John | Hi, I'd like to amend three of my images (all of the same critter), can I ask where I post the amendment to be picked up by a gallery editor?
Cheers

Steve | I think you put it in the comments box under the photo - but you might also wish to pm the appropriate editor with a link to the photo as they cant look everywhere.

Steve | The correct procedure is to report the image, click on the red triangle at the top of each post and a report page will open. Put in the new information there and a moderator will make the adjustments. If it's been identified incorrectly, please give all the correct info, including the scientific name.
Correction, the red tringle is only on forum posts, not gallery posts. For images the report option is listed under the image tools menu on the top right hand side of the image.
